Default Another newbie should I get a Z thread?

Hey guys,
I'm new here to the 350Z forum, but I have been around rx7, supra, and corvette forum for years. Just to introduce myself I'm not new to sportscars I've owned anything from 350 HP Rx7 to 650+ HP Supra. Not to turn this into should I get another 350Z thread, I just sold my modded C5 Z06 vette last weekend and now I'm in the market for a new ride preferably something more reliable than a vette it was my first and last domestic car lol. I test drove a few 350Z's and G35's here locally in Dallas, TX. I wasn't impress with the power however I like how the car runs/shifts pretty smooth and quiet compared to previous rides. I know there's a search button, but if someone could give me a quick rundown on the car would be much easier for me doing a research I'm running short on time here need to pick one up within a week or so. I'll break down my questions to make it short and easier for you 350Z gurus to answer:

1. Any known electrical problems?

2. Any known mechanical problems?

3. How reliable is this car for a daily driver?

4. Anything I need to look for or keep an eye out when I shop around for a used one?

5. Is 50K miles considered high on these cars? How good is the V6 engine?

6. Had there been any issues with roof leak/weather strip leak on both hardtop/convertible?

7. Any clutch problem as far as stock car goes? There was a bad sticky clutch pedal issue known with Z06 vette hope the 350Z doesn't have that same problem.

8. Any hp/engine difference between 350 and G35? I like the 350 better for both ext/int styling.

If you guys feel like I'm missing anything feel free to point out. Oh one last question I'll be paying $20-23K for one with around 18-30K miles is that considered a fair deal? Sorry for such a long post first post.

Thanks guys

I gotta wonder that is rushing to buy a 20k+ product in a week and not wanting to even spend the time to search but here goes.

1. Any known electrical problems? none

2. Any known mechanical problems? depends on the year

3. How reliable is this car for a daily driver? it works for that

4. Anything I need to look for or keep an eye out when I shop around for a used one? just the basics .. again depends on year car

5. Is 50K miles considered high on these cars? How good is the V6 engine?
no

6. Had there been any issues with roof leak/weather strip leak on both hardtop/convertible? unknown

7. Any clutch problem as far as stock car goes? There was a bad sticky clutch pedal issue known with Z06 vette hope the 350Z doesn't have that same problem. depends on year

8. Any hp/engine difference between 350 and G35? I like the 350 better for both ext/int styling. depends on year .. up till 2007 the 350 had the lead

seriously, it would be much benefitial to you if you research about Z and if you really thinking about owning one IMO.

but here are short answers
1 and 2, if you owned many cars before, there is no such car that has no problem but I have not heard many problems.
3, it works for me.
4, like zeekle said.
5, Search VQ35
6, never heard anythink like that.
7, search, there are some thread about it.
8, they are both using VQ35 engines though there are diffences on hp.

If you are getting the car in a week, you should have plenty of time to research the car. you are in the right spot. enjoy the forum, but do a little homework yourself and draw your own conclusion.

I wish I could just take my time doing more research and shop around for the right car, but right now I'm carless and had my girl works around my schedule since monday and it's been tough I just need to pick up something within the upcoming week and it seems like the 350Z is the choice. I didn't plan to sell my z06 or buy another car it just happened last week so now I have to make a quick decision I wish I could justify spending $3-4K and pick up a beater that would never drive in a mean time lol.

I know every car has their own little known issues/problems that's the reason why I'm asking question 1&2 to be more specific would be year 2003-2004 350Z I'll be buying. Thanks for the answers guys now I can narrow it down more and do some research here while I'm at work

03 and 04 have been known to have a tire feathering problem, along with a tranny issue with the 6mt. the only electrical issue is that many have had issues with the power window motor. your better off with an 2004.5 where some of those issues we resolved.

if you are looking for a used one in a week I hope you live in Cali.. around here there are only 5-8 total on used lots all around Nashville. That is not a lot of choice in my book.

Honestly, if I could do it again I would have been active on this forum for awhile first before I bought my car. There is a lot of good info here that goes beyond just the simple questions you have there. You might learn something just by searching that would never be stated here in this thread. I really recommend looking around first. If you ever decide to go FI you might want to look at the cars for sale thread, you can get them cheaper there. Especially if your not happy with the power.

The tire feathering sounds like just an alignment issue no big deal. I'm reading up on transmission problems in '03-'04 but can't seem to find any good info...some say it whines and some say it rattles. These cars also have sticky clutch pedal issue just like Z06 damn it I don't know if it's the hydraulic clutch system or pressure plate cuasing problem on 350Z.

Zeekle, there are quite a few 350z here in TX. I'm shooting for either black or blue with black interior it's kinda hard to find a touring 6spd around here.

Redman, that's the reason I'm here on the forum to look in for sale section, but for whatever reason I clicked on the marketplace vehicle classified I get a message "no post in the last 30 days".

I think I should be ok with all the issues as long as I buy extended warranty. Do these cars come with 3 years or 5 years factory warranty?

I bought the extended warrantee. I'm replacing my tranny now because the syncros in 5th and 6th went out. I am also fixing a bad drivers side window motor, and a bad gas guage. Theres a few of the common problems with the 03 350Zs. I had bad tire feathering also but with my last alignment I havn't had any issues.
