Default the next big 350z mod....

with all the confusion, engine swaps, etc... wouldnt you think that the next big mod for z's down the road would be to swap in the new gtr vq in place of the standard z's motor? its output is about what a tt's vq motor would be at, but alot more reliable, seeing as its "factory". along w/ the motor, the tranny, etc, as well. only downfall would be the price of an almost new motor/drivetrain/ecu. but i dont think it would be that bad of an option seeing as it probably has alot more potential as its 450hp stock and can probably handle upwards of 550whp on a stock block safely. just an idea. what do you guys think?

yea well considering how willing nissan has been in the past to share the gtr with the states i'm sure now they will just be producing tons of spare engines to toss in whatever ya want

It's not wasting a GTR it's just the engine, people put in LS1's in almost everything, and it's not wasting a corvette. They have these things called crate engines

well, you go ahead and contact Nissan then about getting one of these crate engines. personally i do not see the purpose or reason to want to put a different engine in a car that has a perfectly good working one that has shown a lot of potential. but whatever

i have no intentions of changing the engine in my car, i was just drawing attention to the fact that you don't have to but a 75k car just to rip the engine out of it, it would probly still be close to 15 just for the engine though

You think that maybe there won't be too many GTR engines around for quite some time? I mean... the LS1 has been around the block a bit (and is sold as a crate)

Do you think its just a simple motor swap? The GT-R wont achieve 450-500HP with just a VQ block. Youre forgetting turbos, wastegates, BOV, turbo piping, intercooler mounting, and the totally different ECU and harnesses. All this sh*t wont be cheap from the dealer, nor will it be from Japan. I think its safe to say it will be easier to buy an aftermarket turbo kit, and call it a day..

lol, being a previous honda owner, I used to think every motor fits in every model of vehicle. I was sorta thinking motor drop from the Skyline, but chances are it's gonna take much more work than putting a B18 in a civic

no, its a variation of the same vq motor, so itll be easier than lets say, trying to swap in an rb26, or even an ls series motor. the setup is very similar to the z's. its a stock turbo setup so i would assume internals wastegates, etc. but the point being that the stock block can probably handle upwards of 600whp, as opposed 2 spending all of that on a built vq. just a suggestion. i can almost guarantee that the gtr motor is gonna be on alot of z owners to do list.
