Had nothing to do with transmissions. It got a few cosmetic changes, "bug" fixes found in the '03 models along with the updated suspension.

2004 Nissan 350Z Coupe/Roadster (Coupe VINs up to D*4T160000,E*4T060000) (Roadster VINs from D*4T102001 to D*4T110000 & from A*4T002001 to A*4T010000)

2004.5 Nissan 350Z Coupe/Roadster (Coupe VINs from D*4T160001, E*4T060001) ( Roadster VINs from D*4T110001, A*4T010001)

2004.5 is the beginning of the knee pads on the sides of the center console footwell areas. Previous years had nothing.

The .5 signifies a change in production, they fixed something usually. Since the car is actually different, its referred to as a .5 to distinguish between the two models. Can make a difference when ordering parts.

Actually, there are some 2004 models that have the pads.

The 2006.5 has the Advanced Airbag system, whereas the 2006 doesn't.

The 2004.5s also have revised (stiffer) rear springs, some assembly and transport processes were also changed to eliminate some early TSBs like bent tie-rods causing a pull to the right and some axle-clicking issue as well...so, that, the knee pads and can't remember what else.

The transmissions have been undergoing continual revision on this car since new...only way to know what you got is to remove it and check the #.

Look at the cover of your owners manual, it either says "...with Nissan Advanced Airbags" or not.
