What makes it a .5?
What is the determining factor that makes a Z a 2004.5? I see it listed in people's sigs but have always wondered why. Thanks...and sorry for the freakin noob question..

it was made pretty much halfway through 2004 after the transmission recalls. basically it's got the upgraded non breaking tranny :}
Had nothing to do with transmissions. It got a few cosmetic changes, "bug" fixes found in the '03 models along with the updated suspension.

The .5 signifies a change in production, they fixed something usually. Since the car is actually different, its referred to as a .5 to distinguish between the two models. Can make a difference when ordering parts.

The 2004.5s also have revised (stiffer) rear springs, some assembly and transport processes were also changed to eliminate some early TSBs like bent tie-rods causing a pull to the right and some axle-clicking issue as well...so, that, the knee pads and can't remember what else.
The transmissions have been undergoing continual revision on this car since new...only way to know what you got is to remove it and check the #.
