Just curious, many of you have had the Z for some time... would you do it again ? Are you happy with the model you have (i.e base, touring, performance, etc)? Or do you wish you didnt pass up the other car you were looking at?

Without a doubt. There would be no question about purchasing a Z if I had to do it again.

I agree guys! I will keep this car for a long time and I am very happy with it. The only thing that sucks is trying to keep a new car new. Oh and the paint chips on my front bumper.

I'd do it again in a second. Being among the first to receive the Z was well worth the long agonizing anticipation period.

seems like all the track owners that have aftermarket wheels would not have made the same choice. i think it would make more sense to add aftermarket brakes to a lower model and save $$$. i still dont get why people are getting track models when they have intentions of ditching the rims. am i missing something?

I'm planning on buying a Track model. But I won't be changing the rims..... I love the look of those Ray's

I might put small spacers on the back wheels though, just to bring 'em out to the edges a little more

I agree man. I bought a Track 'cos I wanted the best Z I could get, I'm not a mechanic, don't want to put on after market brakes myself or pay a shop to do it and the Brembo's are excellent. I know there are lot's of cool aftermarket rims out there but I love the Rays on my Track and won't be changing them. I can’t understand why anyone would buy a Track and then change the rims and / or brakes. I think Nissan should offer leather as standard on the Track as well as the Touring but just leather not heated electric seats (unnecessary and weighty). Other than that I’m glad I went with the Track.

Yes, love my Z but wish NISMO would offer more after market HP options. I want to be able to compete with M3's and Vettes in straight line performance. Dont ruin the thread stating that Z's are as fast as vettes and M3's, they are not. Good handling though...Jeff

This is my first sports car after years of reading about everything under the sun, and I brought this car simply because I was at lunch and saw it sitting on the showroom floor. I love this car the power and design, and of the price. So even after all the things have I read on this site it doesn't matter I would buy this Z again and again. I would have love more hp but I got a ticket doing 88 and that's a long way from 160, so I fiqure we don't need no mo horses right now.

I'm chiming in because I think I have a different opinion than most.

I think I would buy a Z again - I will know for sure this weekend when I take it to the track. If I am satisfied with the performance then the answer will be a resounding yes and from current indications, I think it will be.

Secondly, I probably would buy a track model instead of an enthusiast if I were to do it again. I got a performance model because I was planning on upgrading the brakes to StopTech's 332mm kit and put on some BBS RGRs in 18x9 with 255mm R compounds all around. After I got the car I found out the following:
- The BBS RGR wheels will not clear the StopTech brakes (spoke clearance)
- There are no R-compound tires in 255/40-18
- The rear stock brakes really suck on the track and have tiny little brake pads that I imagine will not last longer than a day or two
I got the StopTech's installed yesterday and they feel great but I am concerned about those rear brakes and the high wear rate that I will undoubtedly see. I'm not sure what to do about wheels because I don't want to spend $2000 on Volk TE37s just to run bigger street tires. So in retrospect, had I gotten the track model, I simply would have upgraded the pads and fluid and gotten some better 245/40-18 tires and been closer to where I want to be without much headache.

I think I'll be able to sort out the car the way I want it eventually but it's going to be more of a headache than I had planned and I'm therefore a little annoyed that I didn't consider the track model more seriously. But oh well, I'm still enjoying the car and those StopTech brakes are very nice. Maybe I can find a set of rear Brembo brakes off a track model...

I think I would have haggled on the price a bit more. I'm such a big push-over though that it is pathetic. Plus I am falling more and more in love with the RX8 every time I see a pic of it. But so far I love my car, just wish the insurance was a lot cheaper

I agree it doesn't seem to make $ and cents to buy the Track model and then upgrade the wheels. I guess it all boils down to personal choice. You can certainly stuff much bigger tires and wheels in the Z wheel well than what come stock even on the track model. And they sure do look nice as well.

I bought the Track model precisely because it has great-looking lightweight performance wheels and upgraded brakes already. I have no intention of ever replacing them, but I will replace the tires with better grip tires in the same size as stock. The whole combo may not look as phat or stick as well as a Z with wider 18" or 19" TE37s and 245 to 275 rubber, but it has enough grip for me, looks great, and has a lower rotational mass than the bigger/wider setup.

Yup, I'd do it again. It'd be even better if they put the track on a diet and provided better rubber and suspension but it's all 99.99% good!

The only thing that would make me reconsider would be if there is a factory TT offered. I like having a first year car with all the collectable junk I have, but I would be really tempted if Nissan offers a factory TT in the future.

The RX8 looks ok..but there is just NO way I could ever bring myself to buy a Mazda. every one of them I have seen (especially the 626s and 929s)...the taillight bulbs are blown and the door panels are falling apart. I really really question their quality.

Default Would you?

Yes, I love my Z and I wouldn't buy another model or transmission, either. The Brickyard color is outstanding and everyone who talks to me loves it, too. The problems have been mostly taken care of and I have met a lot of nice people on-line that I continue to correspond with on a regular basis. But, the car is awesome.

Boomer,

Glad to hear that you're still in love with your car. I know things were getting a bit difficult for a while.

I too love my car. I have almost forgotten the frustrations of the pre order program. Every day I get more attached to the Z. Wouldn't change any of my original choices.

I had someone stop me at the gas station the other day and he asked me "Is it worth it?". Simply stated, "certainly", and I would do it again ....
