Default How do you drive in the rain?

It've been lurking around these forums a lot and it seems like almost every "I wrecked my Z" story involves rain, which makes me wonder since I'm a novice with my Z. Any tips on driving in the rain? How does the rain affect your driving?

Thanks!

Just drive like a normal person and you'll be fine. If you're going to push it you need to be very smooth with your imputs.

I really don't know how other people are wrecking. The Z isn't a tail happy car like that. Make sure you have decent set of tires. That's probably most important. I see mustangs on the roads with horrible tires and they still seem to manage.

Don't accelerate hard on turns. Just drive normal. I don't see how people really wreck in the rain. If you have tcs and vdc, keep it on.

i turn my TCS back on, lol.

no problems here, but with any car, slow down in the rain. it can bring oil up to the surface of the road and make it slick as ice!

The car comes with "high performance summer tires", as are most of the replacement tires people use. None of them are spectular in the rain. Rule #1 is to avoid hitting standing water at highway speeds. If it's raining hard, slow down and/or get off the highway onto city streets.

I drove mine in the rain all the time and never had an issue.

Behave while you drive. Know your driving limitations and the cars limitations as well.

Seriously though, I thought the Z was FANTASTIC in the rain.

Just dont gas it during curves or turns and your golden really. This is my first rwd car and ive had it a month, ive really learned a lot in the month, got 3200 miles so far. Especially today when it was raining and i had forgotten i turned tcs off when i left my house.... dont ask i was havin fun in a parking lot in the rain lol....

I popped it into manual mode as i came up to a red light and downshifted into 3rd, the light turned green and i was in first obviously, i made the left turn and spun tires, so i let off and shifted into second and gased it just a little but i think the weight transfered to the front and when i hit the gas the back end went sideways lol, i was headed directly for a car that was at the light and thought.... oh god here goes my car, and literally maybe 2 feet from the car i caught traction and straightened out. Ive fishtailed before and didnt panic at all, just corrected myself but i guess i really cut it close today and really didnt need the coffee after that rush heh.

Pretty sure most people will tell you to get new tires also. TCS will help a ton in the rain. Testing the car out in the rain in a wide open parking lot is great also btw, so is rain x!

Here is how you keep out of trouble running the Z in the rain or on wet roadways:

1) Run on good tires with the proper inflation (35 psi for the Z).
2) Never run overly-inflated tires (40 psi on the Z is too high).
3) Never run worn tires (front or rears). Worn rear tires are probably the worst case.
4) Maintain constant and uniform power when the roadway is wet.

... It's all about the tires.
