Angry stealership ripoff

so i got a quote today from the dealership for a nismo exhaust and the price i was given was $1500! they quoted the parts at 1200 so you are telling me that it cost $300 in labor, there is no way. this i a bolt on part, take the old one off and put the new on back on in its place, i cant see this taking more than an hour to do. if im wrong in that it does take longer then i will stand corrected. i have seen this exhaust online for $1000. and i know most shops around here charge $60- $80 an hour for labor. why do dealerships jack their prices up so much?

rofl. No you are correct. They are ripping you off. Its how they make their premium. All you will need is a lift, some tools, the new exhaust, and a new gasket. Badda bing. Do it yourself, youll save money and feel like you got something accomplished.

Edit: and to the above poster. Granted a lot of places may be "specialists", that doesnt mean they know jack. Take a supra to a toyota dealer and see how many of the kids they have working there know jack about it.

if you were the tech doing the work , you would expect the same.
Simple answer. DO IT YOURSELF rather then complain about others' rates

i couldnt agree more.... DO it your self.. BUT HELLO!!!!!! If mr john do grabs a tool he ues's HIS time and effort and knowledge (which in taking it to the dealership to do it for him proves he either is unable to figure it out or has the money not to care) not a pay'd pro (you can argue that point but when the op fu*ks it up he will have no recorse but when the not so smart tech does it he'll atleast be covered) you get what you pay for.. if you feel you can do it your self do it.. (its easy enough) if its well above your head then just pay a pro to do it and save your self the headach and no doubt extra money from breaking stuff. its hardly a rip off when you have a choice.. a rip off is them saying we charge $300 to do this and you HAVE to have us put it on.. not the case.. its a choice..

no it should not take any more than an hour. A shop but my HKS on in less than an hour and they had to fumble with rusted screws that eventually they even has to cut off. You are being ripped off on both ends.

I ordered my from Performance Nissan last year, $950 including shipping to the east coast. I had it installed at MRC in New Jersey for $60. It took one person 30 mins to install. Dealerships are always a rip off.

If you have the time, there is also some pride you get from doing it yourself.

Just go to a local muffler shop & they can install it for you within an hour. Probably run you about $60-$75.

I dont get it. Are they dumb, or are you?
Why would a Nissan dealer sell anything other then Nissan parts?
I dont see anything wrong with that comment.

You have the total price, $1,500, before committing to any work. I don't see any rip-off.

and another thing, the guy, granted he was very friendly, states "we can get you the cold air intake too" i kinda looked puzzled because i have an 07 with the dual air intakes and im pretty sure nismo hasnt made one yet for the 07 but i didnt say anything. but i then said, "isnt that an R-tuned part? i thought those parts void the warranty" he said "no your warranty is ok as long a we put it on." later on when i got home i pulled up the info stating from nissan that installation of any nismo R-tuned part voids the warranty.
