Does this make sense?
I currently live in Colorado and drive a 06 WRX which I love but I have been drawn to the 350z for years. I almost bought a z a year ago but instead went for the WRX with the AWD for my sometimes snowy commute.
I can't say I feel a ton of regret but on occasion (maybe every other day or so) I think about the possibilities. Here's my latest idea...
Buy a new z. When the snow's a comin' call Enterprise and rent a car for the bad weather day(s). The z can stay home all comfy and I can risk my commute in a rental.
I'm thinking that on average I would be renting 3-5 times a year (if that).
I was thinking of maybe buying a beater but then I'd have to deal with insurance, maintenance, and parking (livin' in a condo here).
My wife isn't so hot on the idea (she wanted to slap me over the phone when I first told her my latest plan) but her mind can be changed (or bought off... whatever).
What do you guys/gals think?

Oh, also...refer the wife to this post. That is, after she agrees to the purchase and keys are in hand.

LMFAO hahahahaha i love that thread
I forgot to mention that the wrx would be going away. I'm not going to have payments on 3 cars (my wife has a Legacy too).
Say I spent $2k on a beater along with the z. Then I have to insure it. Even liability will cost me a couple hundred a year (I have extremely low rates). That makes the total $2.2k in year one with $200 per year afterwards. Let's say I do this for 5 years. Now my total is (with no maintenance done whatsoever) is $3k.
Now say I don't get a beater and rent instead. If I rent a front wheel drive car (economy) it will cost me $60 a day (or so) with unlimited miles. Let's assume I need to rent 5 days a year for a total of $300 a year. After 5 years I've spent $1.5k.
$3k for a beater I have to park on the street or $1.5k for a rental I can thrash a few times a year.
The biggest downfall to the whole scenario would be giving up my beloved wrx.
Or - I can be conservative and wait to pay off my wrx and then buy the z while using the rex as the "beater".
*sigh*

Do it. Renting for 4 or 5 days a year will only cost you around $200 - much cheaper than buying/insuring a beater. I can attest that having a Z as a daily driver makes every day better.

Being a fellow Colorado Z owner I have to mention that 80-90% of the time, the roads are clear during the winter. Yes, there are big storms that come through, but those amount to about two weeks that yoiu simply can't get the Z out onto the roads.
To be sure, another option would be to buy a set of used alloys off the classifieds (there are a couple of sets for sale locally- check the SW forums board) and mount up some dedicated winter tires to get through the light stuff. Now the Z is practically a four season car and you only have to rent when the dogsleds come out...

buy the Z...and ull never look back. But here it snows here bad sometimes i no its a hassel. But thats what the expedition is for lol. Im sure when time comes...youll figure something out! But if its only for 3-5 that ull need a renta car, a Z is def worth it
