Default So, I get my oil changed...

this past Thursday, at lunch. The next day, when I arrived back from lunch - the oil is flowing out of my car, as if there is no oil plug, BECAUSE THERE IS NO OIL PLUG!

My question to you all is, do you think any engine damage occurred? All of that oil came out after I turned the engine off. Is that enough to keep the engine lubricated?

It drives and sounds fine, but I am super paranoid.

It was a local shop, I got my oil changed there the past three times. I don't know if there is anything I can really do about it.

Ouch. That doesn't look good. Take the photo to the bozo that changed the oil and...eh, on second thought, stay away from them, they obviously don't know wtf they're doing.
Yikes - not good.

I had the same exact thing happen to me with my old car (Infiniti G20). All the oil drained after I had parked, and it ended up not having any damage / long term issues. You'll be fine, it not like you drove it without oil in it, I know it makes you freak out, but you are ok.

Reminds me of when my friend worked at a tire shop. Someone forgot to tighten the lugnuts on a Land Rover and the guy came back so pissed he cracked the glass on the front door!

Good luck with the situation, I hope you get compensated for their screw up.

A common problem for repair shops is technicians who do serious "Miller-Time" after work, show up the next moring hung over, and do something like this.

I would keep that photo, and also write a letter to the shop (registered mail so you have a record and also get the shop's attention).

I had a similar experience with an old 4-wheel drive vehicle (1990 Montero). The shop put in too much oil (2 quarts too much) and the oil filter split allowing the oil to run out. I drove about 100 miles not realizing I was losing oil. Mercifully... all was OK (I drove the truck another 100K without any problems).

PS: At least you have alternative transportation (RC airplane).

what an idiot (the tech.)...well look on the bright side of things, as long as you weren't driving the car without any oil, you SHOULD be fine....otherwise id make a law suit out of it.

How much oil do you think is on the ground? I would guess 2-3 quarts. I suspect the drain plug fell out about a quarter mile before I stopped the car.

I feel it is flawed now, I just want to get rid of it now. The plane is fun, though.

it should be fine but I would compression test the motor to be safe and write up something saying they are responsible for any damages that may have occurred and have them sign it.

I wondered about this as well... It looks like a big mess. I assume he just left it that way.

Contact the shop where you had the oil change and let the know what happened send them the picture, and advise them of the situation, then get her flat beded to the dealer on there dime,And let the dealership fannagle with them, Engine replacement may /maynot be needed let the dealership make the final call,

Good luck
