What year is your Z? I drove '03 and it had the same problem as you mentioned but wasn't that annoying.

search!!!

Its normal, I dont think anyone know what it really is, but its a good thing.

IMO is some harmonic balance, the engine is at the right amount of work load, getting the perfect amount of air/fuel,etc. -- In short: the sound of healthy Z engine.

Of course this is assuming your talking about, what I think your talking about, its more a hissing sound or what a turbo sounds like spooling up , rather the what ever the hell a HwinG~ noise sounds like

I think a lot of us hear the same thing, mine at 80. But it might be a different noise -- I am pretty sure its from the tranny.

That sound is a signal that the Turbonator is kicking in. Hold on tight!

It's the Tranny. If your cars still under warranty go get it replaced!

Its not the tranny, your going to scare the guy. Hearing the tranny whine is common on the Z, buts it unlikely what he is hearing. When its cold outside, often the tranny will sould like a owl howling til the oil warms up, this is normal, especially if your running after market gear oil.

Plus tranny problem shouldnt be assumed til, there is shifting issues.

if your talking about a whistling, DOHC cars have it (SOHC has it too but it's not as pronounced). under light load you can hear the wind whistle through the throttle body... such a beautiful sound....

maybe it's your ring & pinion whining? since the diff is mounted to the body of the car, they are more noticable with that...mine does it too
