3,750 miles according to service guide and yes synthetic can be used anytime.

They say you shouldn't use Sythetic to break it in, causes the rings not to wear correctly.

When I said "extended periods of freeway driving" It was no more than maybe 50 miles or so, then I would get back on the back roads and continue to up and down shift. I think this helps the rings and valves to sit properly.
