What is it going to take for the next generation Z to be competitive?
The HP war is on & many performance cars are making leaps and bounds in overall performance. Heck, the base model Vette can be bought for mid to high 40's (which is not that much more money than a loaded 350Z) & it putting out 436hp.
What will it take for Nissan's next generation Z to be the benchmark in performance & value in its price bracket?

Realistically here...come on.
Weight reduction....plain and simple. This will increase performance of the 3.7L HR powerplant and aid in accelaration and 1/4 mile times. The Z needs to go on a diet. This also would require a suspension workover.
Change trim levels.
Offer the Enthusiast, Touring, and Track.
Enthusiast includes the 3.7, basic stereo, no leather, TCS, all the stuff the enthusiast now offers.
Touring offers leather, Bose, Brembo brakes.
Track offers the larger wheels like now, and a single turbo or a supercharger. Kind of what Strosek attempted with their test car. Maybe a body kit along the lines of the Nismo.
Price would remain about the same for enthusiast, slightly higher for the touring, and close to $37 k for the track version. You can reduce the cost of the track by removing stuff like the Bose, bodykit and the leather. Should make it affordable and more of a "race car" feel for the true racers. Eliminate the roadster's soft top, and then offer a hard top for it. With the reduced weight, the hard top could keep it around the same weight as what it is now.

I think Nissans' main focus is going to be on the GTR as their most performance orientated car. The Z will probably get the 3.7 and maybe some more Nismo packages but thats about it.

I've seen 2008 C6 1LT for $39,999. That's a lot of car for the price.

A lot of good points (posts) here.
I agree with weight reduction (I don't understand why the Z is so heavy... Porsche's are much lighter), a little more HP, and a slightly better interior.

yes, more power please! Like everyone else said, at least 350hp power, and a definate bump for the torque as well! The interior needs less painted plastic that wears so quickly and needs more soft high quality materials, cause some of us like to keep our cars longer than the current interiors are lasting...

anybody else think they should make the wiper blades a toggle switch on the dash, cause I seem to always turn them on by accident, especially after I washed my car and am wiping the interior down, then It smears up my freshly cleaned wind shield! And maybe even the lights too, like BMW does, and Ford does this as well I think.
A push button start would be cool too!
