Default Has anyone gotten a oil change at the Nissan dealer?

i was wondering if anyone has gotten a oil change at the nissan dealer because my friend has one and he paid almost $70 at jensen lube just because the Z needs synthetic oil

is it really that much even if you go to the dealer?

Yes, people go to dealerships.
Yes, Synthetic is expensive.
No, it is not required.

I always get my Z's oil changed at the dealer. The main reason I do it is because they do that 27-point inspection. That's basically a free check on my car every 3000 miles.

Aside from that, I bring my own oil and request that they use the Long Oil Filter from Nissan. The oil I buy is Mobil1 Synthetic and the dealer has no problems using whatever oil I bring.

They only charge me like, $18 for labor & filter when they do my oil change. Combine that with the cost of my own oil, it comes out to $38 + tax. Not bad for a free inspection every 3K miles with good oil & peace of mind.

I have a 2006 Z so I always take it to the dealer, so that they can see how much oil is in there before the change to check for 'consumption' problems. Plus since I have a warranty, it also gives me peace of mind that I have record of Nissan changing the oil every 3000 or so miles. Nissan dealer sends coupons periodically, which actually act as reminders for me to get the oil changed, and it is usually $28 plus tax or something like that. Plus they'll top off washer fluid, check the basic stuff, etc.

When I bought my Z last year in St. Charles,IL,the dealersip had an incentive of lifetime free oil changes. The service manager recommended not putting synthetic in until after 5000 miles because of the concern this engine has for oil consumption.

I get my oil changed at the delearship. When I call to make an appointment I mention that I'm bringing my own oil so they take note of it. So all I pay for is the labor and oil filter from the dealership. I hear Nissan filters are pretty good (?) so I don't mind them.

Synthetic is not required I don't think, but I switched over to it.
I use Mobil 1. I've had bad experience with Amsoil and Redline burning in my old 2ZZ.

Might as well use dino oil. No point in using synthetic if you don't take advantage of the longer change intervals

All my oil changes (2 years free maint) have been at the dealership with dino oil. I may even keep going after that since they document it and do a basic inspection. Peace O mind!

I just had my first oil change from the dealer, i figure the first one should be from the dealer so they can check everything. It came to $80 after tax.

I just take mine to the dealer. On my last oil change I decided to take it to a nice Infiniti dealer that is closer to me then the Nissan i use. I have to say the service is so much better then any of the Nissan dealers i've gone to. I have to drive ~20 miles each way to just get to a decent Nissan dealer. I did pay an extra $15 at Infiniti for an oil change but in my opinion its worth it.

Your friend is missing certain parts of his brain. You can get Mobil-1 and a filter at Walmart for $25 and DIY!

I let nissan do my first oil change. This was when I was mostly stock and not lowered. I brought my own oil and filter (Mobile-1) and they charged me $15 for the oil change.

That's what I was thinking, but I didn't want to put it so bluntly. Maybe he got something else fixed/repaired.

You mentioned a Long Oil filter. What are the other types they dealership uses and why do you request the Long Oil Filter?

Just wondering b/c I go to the dealership as well and bring my own oil but they use their own filter. I am not sure which one they use or that I may have choices.
