Default Do you find it hard to heel toe in your Z?

I was just wondering if anyone else thinks its difficult to heal toe shift in your z. I can do it in most other cars but for some reason in my Z the brake and gas pedal are just not not positioned well. any opinions

Compared to other cars, the Z is probably the easiest for me. If you are really having a hard time (probably for the tall people, too) just toe-toe. Left side of foot on brake, right side on gas.

I took a tip from Randy Pobst in an article or Sportcar. What he did on some of his race cars (spec Rabbit ) was bend the throttle pedal twords the brake pedal a little. So mine is bent over about 1/2 inch , and makes it so much easier to heal toe.

i have big feet so it was hard for me to pull it off. never got the hang of it so i developed my own way of doin it. id hit the brakes hard enough to slow down then down shift and handle that corner.

I did with the stock pedals. I bought some cheap ebay ones that made the gas pedal "bigger" and now it's like 2nd nature...

It feels like the pedals aren't really set up for heel-toe, but more for "left side of foot"-"right edge of foot".

What works for me is: have foot with heel angled out a little for the gas, steady pressure on brake with ball of foot. Rock right knee toward center console.

That is still called Heel-Toe shifting. Don't split hair to much!

chamois, what are you have trouble with exactly?

Seating position plays a larger role than most people think in heel-toe. Sit "rally style", close enough for a comfortable bend of your knees. You should be able to push the clutch all the way in without interference with the seat cushion. Then adjust the back of your seat to have your wrist comfortably at the 12 o'clock position of the steering wheel. Try that and adjust as preferred. On long haul, I move the seat back a notch or two. I'm 6'1" with long legs and I sit pretty close to the steering.

This is the ergonomics used in the design of street cars. Operation of the controls will be easier.

If you're issue is about the brake pedal being to high compared to the gas pedal, it's usually because you're not braking hard enough. Be careful to mind that if you chose to bend the pedals around. Harder braking and wearing down pads will bring the brake pedal lower and lower.

www.ultimatepedals.com

Another member recommended these guys and I had them make me a new gas pedal. They have a bunch of different ones they can show you. I went with the one attached. In fact, I got to talking to the sales rep and got him to easily agree to making one with holes that matched the pattern on my pedal so it was easier to mount.

It makes reaching the pedal easy.

There was a distinct difference between the 2004 that I test-drove and my 2005. In the 2004, the accelerator and brake were too far apart, but in my 2005 it's no problem at all (other than I wish the brake were 1/8" higher or the accelerator was 1/8" lower).

People who think it's hard on the Z have likely not tried it in a lot of other cars. In the grand scheme of things the Z is pretty good for heel-toe downshifts. (although I do use the left/right side of your foot technique)

yea, i'm 6'3 and wigth 12 shoe size. Heel-toe is impossible, but using half foot on the brake while the half on the gas works pretty well.

I did a high performance course at a track called midohio and they used Acura Tsx's with the gas pedals they had i could heal to with ease. im 6'2 and my shoe size is a size 14. i usually drive with the seat all the way back but i will try doing what you said about the position i sit in, i tried to do the half brake half gas thing with my foot and it was rough but it worked, i think i would have to practice doing that to get it down. i was just curious to see what you guys thought of it when you try. thanks for the input.
