I agree with the auto guys. I've driven both auto and manual and even g35's in both , and there isn't a really big difference. That is great that nissan made an auto tranny that isn't too far off from the manual. Wheelspin from a manual would cause the auto to be faster no doubt.

The fact that i chose manual is that i believe sport cars that people use for spirited driving, should chose a manual. Nothing better than choosing which gear you want and controlling the engine.

My z is my dream car. Lets say if i lived in high traffic areas or areas with huge hills(san francisco) , i'd def get the auto z because in the end, i want a z.

+1

I totally agree. I'm 17 and I enjoy the occasional burst of speed, but the stuff some of my buddies do on busy streets or windy mountain roads drives me insane. Just yesterday I was in my friends 2005 auto g35 sedan and he took it on the mountain road. I have to say it was fun and I'm the kind of guy to keep my cool in such situations, but one wrong move and all three of us in the car could have been dead. I'd test out my handling in a race track or empty parking lot...not when I'm inches away from a cliff on one side and a wall on the other.

I love my car, but as I'm new to manual (less than a week so far) every smooth shift is a celebration.

Cheers

Agreed with the OP. People wouldn't say how "common" they are and such. It's wierd, I was thinking the exact same thing right before you posted this man.

I think, autos can take a shortcut to hell.

And btw... look at which car is being cancelled. And look at how many sports cars are being released by honda or acura in the near future. Now look at Nissan. Notice the difference?

yeah, i agree here as well.

stupid real men! how dare you?!!?!?! everyone knows that when a manual trans goes out, that it's never just a clutch/flywheel/TO bearing and that it never costs more than 500 beans.

when the 5AT blows, it only costs like 2 grand! you losers.........toolz!

Wow, this is kind of idiot that needs to be banned from this site. Not only are you bashing a car that is the same as yours but can shift faster, your trying to justify your purchase of an MT because you needed to be a "real man", oh, and your acting like a 15 year old in the process. Congratulations, you failed.

we aren't too far apart my friend. reduce your car to intake/catback and we can race and see who wins...........then i can either retract or reinforce my statement!

if we all just ignore these AT vs MT threads and leave the trolls alone to talk, everyone would be happier.

DSG and SMG transmissions both have and utilize clutches. DSGs have 2, in fact.

Do you need a license to be so ignorant, by the way?

This is a NA (North America not Naturally Aspirated) thing. Back home the percentage of people that can and do drive stick is ALOT higher..

I couldn't believe how many poeple can't drive a manual transmission when i moved here.. Why is it this way? I have absolutely no idea.

You are obviously clueless on what a 5AT can do. Come to Texas . . . and let's see what your 6MT can do against my 5AT in autocross. Or a road course. Do your trash talking on the track. You probably have never even raced your Z on a track anyway. BTW, I've probably driven M/T cars longer than you're alive . . .

When i want to drop a gear i dont want to wait 3 seconds before it goes to a lower gear lol. Auto takes like 3 seconds to rev match. Thing shifts so slow you got to hit it at like 6200 to get it to shift at 6600. But everyones different. But im saying if you had a 06 auto z with exhaust test pipes and spacer and you lost to a 03 touring 6spd bone stock wouldnt you be pissed. My freind sure was and i had to rub it in like i told you to get the manual haha

The 5AT shifts in more like 200ms when it is being driven aggressively and properly. (Yes, those are milliseconds) I based this on the Porsche Tiptronic because it shifts in <200ms which is very similar to the Z 5AT. There is no human alive that can shift that fast. As far as saying that the AT is bad just because you beat your friend with a few bolt on mods means nothing other than your friend is a worse driver than you.

When rev matching a MT you still have to leave the clutch open and blip the throttle. On the AT, it's no different, the clutch still has to be open for the tranny to blip the throttle so I don't understand what you're point is.

You either can't drive or you are lying out of your *** if it takes you 3 seconds to shift the 5AT. So which is it, "can't drive" or "lying"? I've driven both the 6MT and the 5AT and when properly driven the 5AT shifts faster.

But before you answer the above question and make a fool of yourself, here are some stats that might help you answer the question and why I'm calling BS on your story.

1) A human eyeblink is approximately 300ms. You can prove it by trying to blink as many times as you can in one second. You'll get 3 maybe 4 blinks in if you are really fast. I highly doubt you can shift faster than an eyeblink.

2) A professional NASCAR driver, some of the best manual shifters around, can do a single shift in about 0.7-0.8 second. That is the time it takes them from when they start stepping on the clutch to the time they finish by releasing the clutch, which is pretty damn fast for a human. If you can shift faster than the average NASCAR driver, why the hell are you on this forum instead of being out on the track kicking butt? After all, you can shift 5x faster than they can. Let me be your agent and we can make some serious money.
