Default Car of the Year and other awards...

I don't know or care particularly if the Z wins any awards. It would be nice, but it won't affect my opinion of the car. But I was just curious about the Motor Trend Car of the Year award, so I went to their website. Did you know that a foreign car has not won that award since the Volkswagon GTI back in 1985?

I know it's a US publication, but that blows my mind. Are they saying that the most interesting and best performing cars for the last 17 years have come out of the US? I don't think so!

I guess we can forget that award. But Car and Driver 10best should be a lock.

I'm not that surprised by that fact. I've always thought Motor Trend was fairly biased toward US cars. Meanwhile, Car and Driver is much more biased toward European cars, especially BMW's.

Sometimes, I'm shocked by the cars that MT picks.

motor trend used to do import car of the year and then car of the year (that was from USA), I don't know when they stopped that, but I don't think the thunderbird is much of a car but I think that won.

I don't know who is going to win Car of the Year, but the pre-orderers should win BUYERS-OF-THE-YEAR. Considering we all bought this car on faith, most without seeing and none, as far a I know, actually driving the car before purchasing. Nissan has made as a great car, but we have also done Nissan a HUGE favor. By buying this car on faith, there will be 8000 rolling billboards for Nissan on the highways by the end of October, which should greatly increase Nissan show-room traffic so they can sell more Maximas, Altimas, Xterras, etc. The thing that bugs me, is I see NO evidence that Nissan appreciates us. I don't expect Ghosen (sp?) to personally call me to thank me, BUT the terrible flow of info to us about our cars (which for most are a MAJOR purchase and financial commitment) from Nissan does not strike me as evidence that Nissan appreciates us. Then when we finally find a source of accurate info (the regional offices), Nissan shuts that down and once again treats us like mushrooms. It would be nice if Nissan was to show its appreciation through some sort of gesture. But, it aint gonna happen.

My 1993 Mazda RX-7 was Motor Trends Import car of the year for 1993. I have a stcker on my windshield which says this. The 350Z will probably be selected for this in 2003.
