Default Anyone else think the factory exhaust sounds "ricey?"

I'm not trying to knock our Zs, but when I get ~4k RPM the exhaust leaves almost a ricey note, in my opinion.

Anyone else feel this way? I'd like a throatier sound a la Porsche A while back someone posted a video of a DB Z with a custom exhausted that sounded incredible. Anyone know to which I am referring? I couldn't find it in the search...

IMO, no. In fact I think it is one of best sounding "stock" exhaust. Especially when you first start it up.

It could be better, but being stock I would say it does a pretty good job.

I don't think so. IMO it is too quiet.

Try HKS or Fujitsubo exhaust. They are not too loud, not too quiet, but when you get to higher rpms, they sounded really sexy, a la FERRARI!!!

I don't think the stock exhaust sounds ricey at all...I do think it's a bit quite.

the first time i heard a 350z start up it sounded very throaty just like v6's should sound like. Dont think its ricey whats so ever. Ricey is like loud *** exhaust with cracks at high rpm. The z sounds clean all throughout the powerband.

I think the exhaust note is just a little too quiet - a bit more rumble would be good. I mean to say nobody notices when I start up - have to rev for a while before the crowd gathers (joke).

Did'nt some people take out the middle muffler?

How are they going?

I like the sound of the stock exhaust. Could be louder but there is always aftermarket. Ever hear the stock exhaust on the C5 Vette? Too quiet for a V8 sports car.

No, the exhaust doesnt sound ricey at all. Ricey is cracky and choppy sounding at low and high rpms. I couldnt imagine the Z ever being "ricey" sounding at all.... Some ppl have taken out the resonators to get a little more growl to it.

I had an older guy in a ford explorer run with me on the street apparently to see how quick the car is and to hear the exhaust. After obviously spanking him, he asked me what exhaust i was running...i told him i was bone stock and he didnt believe me until i repeated it again. Other people have mentioned to me that the exhaust sounds really nice. I don't think you have to have a big displacement V8 rumble to sound good...the screaming whine of ferraris (308,348,355,360) with their relative small displacement sounds even better in light of the performance.

Yep I get the same response. My friend has a greddy exhuast on his car and he suprised me when he said "Why the hell does your exhaust sound so good?". Nissan did a good job.

oh no. not the "ricey" debate again. This topic is about as volatile as the 350z vs. 300zx debate!

Do you even know what "rice" or "ricey" means? And where it came from?

are you kidding? this is one of the best sounding stock exhaust I've ever heard! other than Ferrari, Porsches...you get the idea..

The hard part is to decide if I want to sacrifice the stock exhaust for aftermarket exhaust with more hp.. decisions, decisions..

seriously.. "ricey" is pretty offensive when you understand the origin of the word. But then again pretty silly.

Next time I hear a ridiculously throaty V8 should I call it "hick" like??

"That camarro is pretty 'honky' yall!!"

heheh oh man thats just lame!

sorry guys

I just wish people would cut the "Rice" crap.

...and how someone could say the z's exhaust sounds 'ricey' is beyond me. Maybe some people are just looking for something to call, 'ricey'.

here's the stock exhaust, minus the muffler, added a turn down onto the flange at the rear.

http://www.r32.us/Portals/57ad7180-c...25-03/run4.wmv (windows media 9 required to view video, 4meg file, mic attached to the rear license plate.)

I am working on the pictures, my buddy didn't email them to me tonight! argh

I think the exhaust sounds fantastic, though I wish it were a bit louder.

I especially like the sound between 1500-2000 RPM and 3500+ RPM. From 2000-3500 it is pretty smooth and quiet, but outside that range it has a nice little "bark" to it.

I'd like to hear the Borla exhaust, since the advertised HP gains seem to be decent and the weight is a bit less and the sound will hopefully be a bit louder than stock.
