Engine Changes from showcar to "production"

On the G35, the battery is located in the passenger side, top corner of the engine bay. It looks like the Z has the battery there to - it is under a tiny cover that flips up.

I think the upper fan shroud being gone is an important clue. I remember original cutaways of the engine showed that it had a mechanical, belt driven cooling fan. I'm predicting that they went to an electric fan to reduce parasitic loss on the engine. They usually have a shroud built closely around the ends of the fan blades.
Also the opening to the airbox that scoops air in from the grill area is taller, at least it appears to be.
