Please help ensure my new San Mar. Blue Z does not get rock chips!
Hey all,
So I just started posting on the forum today. I have my first dilemma. I'm driving down to socal from Bay Area to visit my folks... the enemy... rock chips and other crap that can hurt my beautiful paint job.
My solution?? Well, I'm always super busy at work so for a quick fix I was thinking... Blue Painters tape... and plenty of it.
I will most likely tape the front up to the first half of the hood.
Will it look funny?... yes... but as long as the paint stays in good shape thats all that matters.
Does anyone else have any better ideas??
PS: I did this when I owned my Lancer Evolution and it helped.
Thanks in advance!!

the paint on the Z isn't very durable. I let the first rock chip really bother me...then I came to terms with it being a part of taking her out. You can clear bra it like the above mentioned or just learn to live with it.

Honestly, if you always have it covered you will never enjoy your cars paint. Seriously think about it if its going to be covered most of the time when will you actually see it?
Also having something covered like even with a bra will cause a difference in the paint of the area that is covered. Paint changes from the sun and if its covered the part that was covered will appear to be miscolored. Suck it up and get rock chips, you can always repaint when it gets really bad

Thanks for all the posts everyone! Yea the 3 clearbra's in the same minute was awsome. I will look into it.
GG has a good point... maybe I should just accept that it will happen and enjoy the car. Since I dont have time to get it clearbra'd I think I will stick with the tape for tomorrow.

Yep, get a clearbra ASAP. I didn't learn my lesson when I bought my car... I had to get my whole hood and front bumper re-painted, wait 30 days for the paint to oxidize/cure, and then put the clearbra on. The clearbra is worth every penny.

I always get razzed when I post this but, after 4 years my paint still looks like new. I use this Colgan bra for long freeway runs, rally's and club meets while on our cruise. When I'm not cruising it takes 30 secs to take it off or less.
Enjoy your trip.... ;-)
