Default Nissan wont honor my warranty

i took my car into the nissan dealership today. while i was driving around yesterday, the engine temp got really high and all of a sudden, it would not let me rev past 2000 rpms; the ECU would cut gas to the engine and i was bucking around like crazy on the highway. i couldnt go past 50mph.

when i got to the dealership today, they saw that i had the nismo r tune headers, and said that completely voided my power train warranty! WTF?!?! i thought they could only void your warranty if they could directly trace the problem youre having directly to the mod?

worst part is, my car's warranty expired 900 miles ago! i have the balance of a 12 mo/12,000 mile warranty thats on my engine because it was replaced a 3,000 miles ago...

You can try another dealer nearby. If not, you'll proabably need to pay out of pocket

bring them a copy of the Act stating that they can only void the warranty if they can prove the headers caused the problem. You would think being nismo headers they may have considered looking the other way.

Not true.....look up the 1-800 to Nissan and report this incident. An investigation has to be completed and if found your mods did not directly affect this problem then Nissan must cover! However, MOST dealers will tell you otherwise unless you push the issue to the next level. My Father has worked for Nissan for 15 years.....good luck!

Go to www.sema.org and look up the mossberg act(I think thats what its called) print it out and show it to them. This act protects you and says you can put on aftermarket parts and they MUST show you how your mods caused the problem before voiding.

Do it and let us know what happened. I hate dealerships like that. Its stupid because its only more money for them. Thats why I love mod friendly dealers. Move to SoCal and take it to WCN.

Just for clarity... It's the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act.

How do headers effect the power train? Ask the service manage to put it in writing and sign it.

WCN is who replaced my engine. they also installed all the aftermarket parts onto my car. since then, i had the car shipped to PA. Rothrock, my local nissan dealer, has been a complete pain in the ***. the were telling me how they cant honor the warranty on the replaced engine because another dealership did it. what a bunch of *** clowns.

It's pretty much in the hands of your service adviser whether they chose to warranty it or not. Most douche dealerships will ring you up for everything you've got.

Find another dealer.

Nissan already has a disclaimer stating that r-tune components are not covered by warranty, so common sense woudl say it would probably void the warranty as well since those parts are "for off road use only"

R-tune: Ideal for the Weekend Racer
NISMO R-tune parts are intended for the hard-core enthusiast or weekend racer. The goal with R-tune components is maximum performance, which compromises street civility. They are intended for off-highway use only and, as such, no warranty is offered for R-tune components and they are sold “AS IS”. These parts may not be legal in some states and/or may void manufacturer’s warranty.

So basicaly installing R-tune headers voids your warranty on your cars headers but everything else should still be covered.

Thats what I would figure they should show proof that it caused the problem. Just keep annoying them till they do it and if they don't you can either go to another dealership or pay out of pocket.
