first let me explain my situation. i'm 26 and in absolute LOVE with the 350Z. I'm married and have two small kids (4 & 1). We live in the midwest and get about 2 weeks of bad snow a year. I currently drive an Audi A4 Quattro and my wife leases a Land Rover SUV.
i'd like to sell the Audi and buy a 350Z, but am having trouble rationalizing buying a 2 seater. I bought the Audi because it was my favorite sport sedan in my price range at that time. I still love my Audi (the AWD RULES!), but i find that we take the Rover most of the time as a family and i'm alone in my 4 door 90% of the time.
How do those of you with a family and less than 3 cars handle owning a 2 seater? Will i regret buying a 350Z in a couple months and wished i bought the G35 coupe instead? Although i do like the Infinity, i droooooool for the Z.
any advise? TIA

well i have 3 cars the Z is a weekend car for me and my wife, or just me most of the time..then when i go to work i go in my Tahoe, and my wife drives a jag x-type. I have three kids 14,12,and 8...we have no problems. In your case i think the G35 will be good, but like you said 90% of the time alone go for the Z, you definitely won't regret it, but then when your kids grow up and you have them in sports where will they go if your wife is shopping or something..the decision is at your hands man. I think either way you'll be a happy man with a brand new car.

it won't be a big problem if u buy the Z, especially since u said that 90% of your time that you are travelling alone... IF, in case there's an emergency situation, put one of your kids in the trunk...
j/k

If the situation requiring carring 2+ passengers occurs, trade the ride with wife; Assuming wife will not be carrying passengers and can complete her task with a two seater.
Else, go for G35, very beautiful piece of machinery.
Good luck and let us know your final decision.

The way I see it is that you will most probably be in a situation where you have to drive your kids somewhere and the rover is out, so I would go with the G35 for the space and it is a very good car.

Okay... I'll be the smart @ss... if you're asking this, maybe you shouldn't be allowed to have children...
Seriously, tho... you're safer bet would be the G35. No matter how much time you drive alone, there will always be situations where you can't take the other car. The one that pops out in my mind is what happens when the other car is being serviced... or when your wife is already gone and you must take the kids somewhere.
If it were a 3rd car, fine... but I think you'll be creating some difficult situations for yourself if you buy it as a 2nd.

Vital stats:
Kids: 3 & 1
Wife: 28
Me: 29
Pick up Date: Jan 16
Regrets: 0
I went through the same thing you're going through. I ended up with the Z because I liked the way it looked quite a bit more than the G. Sometimes it's tricky with a two seater, but 95% of the time, if we're going anywhere, we're in the wife's grand cherokee. Besides, next year we're going to keep the Jeep and pick up a mini-van. That eliminates the rest of the concerns for me. In the meantime, I'm the envy of the neighborhood and lovin life!

Well I posed this same question here before I got my Z. I have 3 small children 5, 3, and 4 weeks. My wife has a 2001 durango we drive her car most of the time. The Z goes to and from work and on my misc. trips. I would say the only pain of the Z is my wife cannot drive a stick and she is not willing to learn. So I can't take her car when I need it. GET THE Z!!! It is a worthy sacrafice.

Ryno,
I'm 26, wife & kid, same general geographic/weather concerns. Trust me when I say this...the one thing the Z is not is rational!
My Z is my car for driving to work or running errands, or going out with my wife w/out the kids. That's all it is useful for and all it is needed for.
Our other car is an '02 Altima and that works fine for at least 4 people (including 2 car seats).
Yes, it sucks that I can't go anywhere with it because there is not the back seat for my son, but trust me...you'll get over it!
AND, if you truly need to take one of your kids somewhere in an emergency situation, you can have an airbag on/off switch installed for about $400.
