For those wondering what the SHIFT LIGHT looks like
#1
Current automatic gear selection? (i.e. 'R'everse, 'D'rive, etc.)
All auto tranny cars I've been in seem to have a display showing the current shift position so that's my best guess (seeing that the dash lacks an indicator).

You ARE the man.
I think (but it's just a guess) it will display the PRND for when you are in automatic and the gear 1 2 3 4 5 when you are in tiptronic. Just a guess my passat has that, tell me if I'm wrong, because you seem to know more than anyone else about these detals.

just to confirm everyone is right... look at the owners manual.

8. Automatic transmission position indicator or
Manual transmission shift up indicator
I would prefer looking through this manual, than looking through the thousands of pictures available for that perfect one. YMMV.

More information from TFM (page 2-10, multifunction computer):
Up-shift indicator setting (rpm) (for
manual transmission models)
The up-shift indicator setting mode is used to
set the desired engine speed (rpm) for the
up-shift indicator (situated in the tachometer) to
illuminate. When the engine speed approaches
or reaches the set figure, the up-shift indicator
will flash or illuminate to show the driver the
timing for shifting into a higher gear. See ™Driving
the vehicleº in the ™5. Starting and drivingº
section for the use of the up-shift indicator.
When the up-shift indicator setting mode is
selected, the rpm indicator blinks and the engine
speed currently set is displayed. (The initial
factory setting is 6,600 rpm.) The figure can be
changed between 2,000 and 8,000 rpm by
pressing trip computer setting switch qB . Pressing
the switch for less than approximately one
second will add the figure by 100 rpm. If pressing
for more than approximately 1 second, the
figure will increase by 500 rpm.
If the battery cable is disconnected, the set
engine speed will be returned to the initial figure
(6,600 rpm).

Shift Light
I plan to spend some time in the AT's manual mode, does it have an rpm setting like the MT? If it does, then I can set it for 4000 rpm during breakin to keep me honest. I don't remember the manual addressing this, does anyone know?

I think that manual shift light is pretty useless considering it's size and location. The whole idea of a shift light is so you dn't take your eyes off the road when racing or whatever. If I'm gonna have to pay attention to the tach for the small light to go of might as well look at the rpm display on the tach. They should have incorporated the shift light into the multifunction display on the 3-pod cluster.

Actually... I do! AHAAHA... my friend works for Auto Zone and customer returned the nozzle lights. He apparently burned off one of the wires so I was able to recover only one light when my friend gave it to me.
It's a dinky blue LED. But hey, it's free. AHAHHAAHA.

You think so?
I'm deciding hard between green and blue.
It's funny how the blue lights are strong enough to force it's color through green.
I've done it. On the gauge warning indicators of yellow, green, and red. I lit it up with blue LED and it all comes through blue... without a hint of original color.

The shift light is pretty cool. I've got rides in the AT and MT. The MT shift light will start to blink before you reach the desired rpm then it will turn on and stay on till you shift.
This may get annoying for some. If so, you just move the shift light setting to a higher RPM so that you won't see the light. Unless you shift at a really high RPM
Remeber you don't really need to have it on the road. How many times does that seatbelt light bug you or the low gas. This shift light is basically the same thing if its on you can see it

speedometer
Is this actual guages in production cars? The ones i have seen in most other shots go up to 160 which is a bummer if top speed on the stock cars is mid 150s. With any decent mods - we'll be off the guage - so this guage going to 190 is sweet if it is real!?
any idea?
