Default Questions about my new Z

Hey guys, so I've been prowling these forums for a couple months now, well since I got my 350z and even before.

I purchased a "new to me" 2004 silver nissan 350z AT, and love it so far. Only 14,000 on the odo, so I'm a happy camper, and a hell of a lot cheaper than a brand new one.

So I have a few general questions I thought I would ask.

First, the oil pressure gauge in the center of the dash. What should it read? I mean, I know my car has nice smoothy silk oil, and is full, but the pressure obviously fluctuates from about 1/4 on the left side (I believe that would be around 8psi? though I'm not looking at the car now, so I can't recall off the top of my head) all the way over to the '3/4' marker on the right when i'm accelerating on the freeway. I guess my question is, is that normal? Or is the variation too much?

The next question is not so specific, but I seem to have quite a few 'rattles' from various interior parts. I can't tell if this is shoddy construction, cheap materials or what. If i put pressure on a few places in the dash, it seems to go away there. Its not a huge deal, but it can get annoying, especially as I drive without the radio a lot of the time. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there an easy fix, or is the best thing to just finangle with it?

Now for this question, I expect to be yelled at quite a bit, but thats ok! I'm pretty sure my Z has the horrid tire feathering problem, extremely load road "roar" between about 18mph and 35mph or so. It looks to have the stock tires on it however. Does an alignment & new tires fix it? I have read quite a bit about it, and seem to have gotten mixed results as to what the fix is, if any, so I thought I'd ask here for a more direct answer.

Thanks for your time, I know this could and almost has turned into a wall of text, so I appreciate anyone that takes the time to read through and answer my questions.

i have almost the same Z as you...

silver, 2004, AT...mine had 32,000 miles when i bought it though.

i had the same issues.

1...oil pressure guage varies alot as you drive. yours sounds normal...or at least the same as mine.

2...i have those annoying rattles, but i cannot ever find where they are so i just deal with it...no biggie

3...front tires were shot, so i bought a new set and i've had it aligned twice since then(that was my only option at that point)....road noise went away completely.

hope that helped...

enjoy the Z and show us some pics!

Congrats on the purchase. I am sure you will get detailed answers from other users. In my 05 MT, the oil pressure gauge fluctuates about as much as yours. My car doesn't rattle at all, although I can hear every drop of rain and sometimes it sounds like the back isn't closed properly, although it is . But thats about it. Interior parts all seem solid to me, cant relate on your comment regarding that. Cant help you with the last one but from what i read, (i think) the tire feathering only happened in 03...Maybe its stopped in 04.5. Good luck

Oh yeah, and i like to turn off the radio and listen to that beautiful instrument in the back too...

oil pressure is supposed to go up when you accelerate.

noises from inside of the car is usually normal for an older car. escpecially if the previous owner had a loud sound system in it.

there is a TSB for the tire feathering issue. not sure what they do exactly to fix it. i believe they have new springs.... but not sure. check with local dealership. also, lots of info on here about it as well.

congrats on the new ride! enjoy!

1. oil pressure Sitting at idle it should be around the first knotch (30psi) So thats normal.

2. 350z has cheap interior parts, learn to love it.

3. An alignment and new tires will help fix the problem. It will be no where near as bad as it is now, but it will still exist. Not to the point where it is ruining one of the tires each time around, but by the end of the tires tread life you will notice a difference.

4. Congrads on the new purchase the little things you notice now will blend in with the love you will build for your new automobile. ENJOY!

If your 04 is like my 03, it's a huge rattle trap. Like other posters said, get used to it. You honestly could have found out about that in like ten places on this site...

Mine does rattle or probably more like I don't hear any rattling. It's either I drive hard or have the music up loud enough to drown out the rattling. Might also be your seat belt which I noticed when the passenger did not tuck it nicely.

I would like to thank everyone here who responded with helpfull comments.

To those of you asshats that were jerks enough to just post a link to a search, or made equally stupid comments, go bugger off.

I think that many of us have forgotten what a thrill it may have been getting the Z. It's more fun to ask some questions and have another owner respond than to "search" for answers. Have some heart and help the guy, share in his enthusiasm, or just leave it alone. Of course, it's not just here btw.
