Trailer or drive 13 hours with new Z
All,
I'm going to pick up my 2005 Z in 2 days and was wondering what everyone's recommendation is for this time of the year (Dec). I did a search, and it looks like it MIGHT go on a full trailer, but could be iffy. It's a stock Enth, so has not been lowered.
Anyone have any suggestions? I will be driving it from Illinois to South Dakota, so one never knows about the weather. But I don't know which would be worse - trying to get it on a trailer and then pulling the trailer in possible bad weather, or having to drive the Z in bad weather for part of the drive.
Weather looks ok right now, but one never knows.
Thanks for all suggestions!
Bryan

Everyone always says it, but I learned this past weekend: stock tires are worthless in any kind of snow, not only is the tread pattern inadequate, but the durometer totally breaks down-you will have to stop in anything more than .5in snow.
If you trailer it, you may have a better chance: more weight=more traction in the snow as long as you keep your speed in check (assuming your truck has some decent snows or all-seasons).

I agree but with my first Z which was AT I drove it all last winter with no problems really. I just had to shut off the Traction Control to start off sometimes and yes of course it wasn't the greatest car in the snow but you guys who say never ever drive the Z in the snow must not know how to drive. Of course it will slide and spin a little bit but if you take your time these cars go fine in the snow and rain.

All,
Thanks for the help and the suggestions! I was worried that everyone would say "trailer it", but it looks like more are suggesting drive than trailer. Drive would be my choice for the simple reason that if I trailer, I then have sand, etc hitting the car the whole way home (assuming there was snow somewhere along the way). And since I don't have a cover, I don't know that I'd like that on my pretty new PPW. I've driven on snow and ice my whole life, so hopefully I have a little experience with that part - granted, never in a Z, but I have a feeling I will baby that thing on the way home.
So thanks for EVERYONE'S input. Hopefully I won't post a message on Tuesday talking about the Z I owned for 3 hours. And if I do run into weather, I can always stop for the day - not in a huge hurry to get back to work.
