If you want OEM keys at a great price check this link:

https://www.streetkeys.com/

If I remember correctly I paid about $25 for a key.

if I get a factory chipped key without cutting, can I just go to normal key store and cut it? or do I still have to go to the dealership and get the key cut?

I recently had a Python alarm system installed (identical to Viper). In order to get the alarm to function properly a copy of the key must be placed in the car. My dealer had me buy another key through the site I listed above. They then filed off the the key leaving the head with the chip. They then hid the copied key. This way if someone ia able to break in they cannot use the key to start the car.

ooooooooooook, here goes all...

you can buy a knock off chip key on ebay, or any street corner of NYC. However, I have seen a number of them after they were cut, not be programmable to the car. And NOOOOOO its not the dealership at work, I have tried to program them MYSELF with no avail. Buy a dealer key, and you must have them program it, save yourself the 30 bucks or whatever a knock off cost ya.

a car with an alarm has to have a key hidden in the steering column close to the chip module. Usually the metal part is broken off so it can't be cut and used, however.

a plain old walmart key can be cut yes, however it is likely to only work in your doors. it may turn the ignition but try to start with it to many times and its TOW TO THE DEALER time for you. The module will lock you out b/c it thinks you are trying to steal the car with an unauthorized key.

Have I covered all points???

my clifford remote start is the same way....be warned...now that a transponder key is in the car, they can hawt wire it or stick a screw driver in the ignition to gank your car. No need for your special key since its already in the car. I just use my remote start as a turbo timer....which doesn't require the transponder key. Plus, if you leave your car in gear without the e-brake up and activate remote start...you'll be chancing your Z down the street as hit hops along.

Ask your dealership how much it costs to cut and recode a blank chip key only. 90% of that cost is for the key blank itself, and the cheapest dealership near my house charged $10 to recode and cut it. However, if I wanted to buy the key from the dealership, it would have costed $100.

I just bought the blank off Ebay, took it to the dealership, and paid the service/parts dept the labor to code and cut the key,
