Seeing some Z's trenched in ice is just

holy crap people...do you read any of the forums? this is discussed multiple times every single day.

To the guy i quoted...i hope you arent trying to drive in the snow on summer tires. You will die or at least crash.

snow tires in winter = good

summer tires in winter = death

please heed this advice. I will not abide another crashed Z

Why do so many people think the 350Z is such a fragile car? Granted, I'm new to the Z world but I would imagine that the Z enjoys the same rust protection as other cars on the streets during the winter. I'm 70 years old and I've driven a lot of RWD cars, including a few muscle cars, in Alaska, Montana, Nebraska and other places and none had the sophisticated traction system that the Z has. Granted the Z has a little shorter wheelbase and is a little closer to the ground but it should be just as drivable as any other RWD car on the street. I've got 4 Dunlop M3 snow tires on now and my Z will not be parked in the garage for the winter. I've been on a few slick streets so far and the TCS/VDC system certainly tends to keep the rear end in line. Granted driving in the winter is a bit more hazardous than in the summer but I don't think my Z is a wuss that needs to be kept in the garage for the duration.

IF YOU HAVE A Z BASE MODEL....(less TCS/VDC system )

DO NOT DRIVE IN THE SNOW...at all....

NO CHANCE...less you wanna be entertained like bumper cars...and pay higher premiums on insurance....

but I don't get it...its a sports car to be driven in nice dry weather (or even on a road with some traction)

unless it's your daily driver and its your only vehicle..
but I guess if you gotta eat...

I have 07 PPW base and I dd my z. I go to school in Buffalo and it snows alot here. Man...trust me do not go out when there is snow on the ground. Unless u want to do a 360 into the other side on the road and get stuck in the middle of the street with ur emergency lights on and ur wheels spinning to get traction. I learned from my experience lol.

also I have a question. since my base z dun have tcs or vdc, would it still do all the things I mentioned up there if I got snow tires? Would I be able to drive on highway with snow tires of course, when there is snow? I'm just worried, cuz my Z almost spun out on my way down to jersey today. It was just horrible

If you dun have sand bags in da back of yer car, get em. They help with weight and provide a means for traction if you get stuck (ie. sand under the rear tires).

I dont know, but I drive my Z in all sorts of weather. Granted I'm not gonna go out during a blizzard but once roads are cleared I'm out and about. And like the older gentleman said the VDC is pretty good at what it does.

If you look at all the test Japan does on the tracks its always raining, and they do just fine. Just my .02.. It all has to do with the tires you have and how you respect the road.

Blizzaks or the equivalent and you would do just fine. With summer tires, you will lose traction even on dry pavement when it is really cold but only during hard acceleration, with All Season you will be good for anything except snow. We get maybe 10 days a year with snow accumulating on the streets - Enterprise at $30 a day is cheaper than a beater. And yes, this subject has been beaten like a dead horse (whatever that means)

TCS/VDC is good to have in these conditions. The exception is when you are a full stop and your wheels are spinning, then you want to turn TCS/VDC off just so you can get some forward momentum. Once you are moving, turn those safeties back on. If you have snow tries for your car as base, you should be fine. Just drive carefully. I am not sure if you can drive in really heavy snow, but for any light dusting and what not, you should be alright. Narrow tires FTW.

Been caught in snow storms many times with mine. 6" fresh snow once, on stock tires. Had zero problems. If you respect the snow, and take your time, and don't try to push the limits you will have no problems. I'm still amazed at the people that sware they were driving 20 mph on snow, and the car suddenly flipped over, or spun out into a ditch. There's always more to the story then someone is willing to admit, because they don't wanan get flamed. Snow adds a significant hazard. But it isn't the end all be all if you find yourself caught in it. I think age, and driving experience play a big roll in a majority of snow related Z accidents.

Without a doubt the single most mis-understood thing on a car are the tires yet they are the most important. They are the ONLY thing between you and the pavement. There's a reason Tire Rack is so freakin big.

i don't drive in the snow or rain. Not worth it, I drive a 99 ford Taurus when this happens. I don't even like driving at night.
