Default It was a fun while it lasted

After only 9 months of owning a Z, I was involved in an accident.

To make a story as short as possible, have you ever tried to make a left turn into a small street using the empty center lane of a busy blvd only to have your view blocked by heavy opposing traffic waiting at a red light? You might find at least 2 people waiting in the first two closest lanes that might clear a space in front of them so you can make your left hand turn, but what if third lane which is free of traffic and theres somebody coming down that lane?

Well that "somebody" was me, as shocked as I was to see a small KIA pop out of traffic without sneaking forward to see if anyone driving down the lane and instead the drive decides to make a bolt for it to try and "beat the train" so to speak.

So I hear screeching brakes, and I say hello to mr airbags, and I get out un-harmed to see my baby all busted up in the front. Well by the looks of things, the car will probably be called a total loss by my insurance company. Theres damage to the hood, bumper, pasanger door that won't open, and the engine.

Since this just happened last night, I'm not sure what the insurance adjuster is going to say about my situation, but I have a question that I would like to bring up and maybe someone here can comment on what I have in mind. I just bought a nice set of 19" RH wheels/tires that were not damaged by the accident and I want to keep them. Is this request possible if the insurance company labels the car as a total loss?

Thanks for reading

Sorry to hear about it. I almost lost my Z to a similar incident, except that jackass's view wasn't blocked by anyone, he just wanted to beat the light. To this day, I can't believe I was able to stop in time.

Good to know you escaped without serious injury; hope to see you in the Z fold again.

It happens frequently making a left turn.

Oncoming traffic is courteous, and gives me room to turn. But I cannot see hidden traffic passing on their right. I don't take the risk. I just shake my head like “no thank you.”

Thanks for reading
Do you want a real, correct answer?

Call your insurance provider.

If you want a bunch of meaningless guesses from people who couldn't possibly know the correct answer, then you have come to the right place.

^^ depends on your insruace coverage, actually- and there is the truth.

i went through that when my GSR got totalled, they charged me to take my subs and amp out, the insurance agent said if i would have had a different plan or rate, they would not have charged me to take them out.

but ya, you have to call to make sure, it is different for everybody.

is the car locked up or did you get it towed to your house? If its at you house i'd just switch the rims before the insurence company takes the car.

So basically, someone from a turning lane wanted to get off the blvd, by turning left through your direction of travel. Two lanes stopped to let her go, but your view of the turning car was obstructed by them, and you didn't realize why they had stopped until you hit her?

If so, that's just f-ed up. The people who stopped are just as stupid as the driver who you hit. You simply don't do that on a blvd, you wait until everything is clear. Awful, man.

Maybe that's why the Z is one of the most expensive cars to insure?
