Default 350Z reliability and best year to buy!

im in the market to purchase a Z in San Diego. I am not new to nissan, but I have been hearing a lot of issues in regards to handling with the car. So I have my eye on a 2003 6spd Nav. 49K miles. What do you guys think?

I have a Boosted IS300. I know size is going to be an issue. But I am looking forward to getting more knowledge.

I have Searched an didnt come up with much...

I don't know what handling issues you're talking about. 2003s may suffer from tire feathering and F**ked trans on the MT. Also, some have a gas tank issues (not filling up all the way).

2005 seems to be a better year. Not much tire feathering and not the new version of the engine that can suffer from burning oil (2006+)

The engines are solid

bought an '87 Z in '90 w/ 52k miles and took it to bout 187k... w/ plenty spunk left. replaced it w/ a '95 pathfinder and took that to 225k until head gasket went. now currently in shop to hopefully attain more mileage...

not saying 49k isn't a lot but certainly have plenty left if you need to ....

I have 81k on my 03 z. The transmission was replaced with about 10k on it. I'd say if it had a tranny issue it probably would of shown its face already. Tire feathering can be solved with a proper alignment. I recently supercharged it and have not had any other problems at all.

i would buy it.

Yep SOME of the '06's including mine use up oil, like a ****, so I would shy away from an '06 if I was you. Would also steer clear of an '03 model as well, for different reasons, unless maybe you buy an auto..

isn't this always the case with someone looking to buy a car, stating they know about it but yet can not find anything on a 2003 car that with a simple search you can find a bunch of threads listing all the problems with a 2003. i find that part of the statement above to be complete BS, the real deal is you did not want to tlook through all the threads yourself and decided to start another one instead looking for a fast answer. suggestion, redo your search and actually read those threads, you might learn something

The guy obviously did not search. Also he would have known about the tire feathering and just replacing the tires would not fix that problem. The tires would then get ruined.

I really think the forum needs to be locked down to noobs into a few areas till they read through a faq and stuff then suddenly they get full access. lol.
