I have to disagree with you.

Salv....which part. The feeling of 5 horsepower difference? It is generally acknowleged that humans can't really tell much difference until it is closer to 10% of anything, whether that is speed, pitch in sound, etc. Or the part about a car all of a sudden, instantly, kicking in.

I agree, when running a 300hp engine, i doubt youll feel anything less than 20hp.

I think our cars will change by 5hp a day with the weather. Colder temps give a boost, but if I had to drive a car that was 5 hp adjusted, and one that was baseline, I think I would be guessing which was which. No way I would be betting money on my picks either. Too close to call. On a motorbike, dirt bikes back in my day, you could just notice, and that is on a few hundred pounds of bike and a person. On a 3500lb car with passengers, 5 hp? I don't think so. Professional driver probably though, on that I can agree.

I read that for every 10 degrees the temp drops you gain 1hp. Doesnt seem like a huge difference from say 20 degrees to 80, but turbo cars definetly gain more but they should obviously.

Lol... That's why I keep the 01 Xterra around. Drive that for a week and then the z's a supercar!

Well, for that and to carry stuff (Mtn Bikes, snowboards, etc)

troof!

i drive a 98 auto Neon during the winter since i don't want the Z to get salt all over it and it stinks in the snow anyways. on nice days when the roads are clear, i will take the Z out and it feels like i am in a rocketship in comparison.

I disagree with the not being able to feel a difference....

1...Start it...let it warm up. gun it. Take note of how fast it feels...then drive for an hour... car will be reall hot. You'll feel the difference when you gun it after the engine is hot...

2.you get the same feeling with having somebody in the car even if they are 100-130 lbs you can still notice a difference..

3.I ,coming from owning a mustang, took it out year round, hot and cold...To be honest the engine is rather large as you know, and also gets really hot...
However in the winter, it had EXCEPTIONAL difference in power. Driving my Z in the cold vs hot has much less noticable changes in comparison with the stang..

Now, as you said, about not being able to feel 5 horsepower, I disagree because I dont think any of the scenarios i listed could..well...give "10hp" gains...or could they?

The difference in hot and cold has a lot more to do with than just the engine. Cold parts, oil, etc, will havea lot more to do with things. If you had your eyes closed and were a passenger at 100 miles per hour, and then had again at 105 miles an hour, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference by feel. Now that is 5%. You are talking about 5 HP on a 300 HP car. 1.66%. Almost impossible to feel in fact. Cold air will give a boost in HP, not 10HP though unless it is a drastic change in temp because cold air is denser and therefore more oxygen per cubic measurement. Warm oil spins easier but once the car is warmed up, whether it is warm or cold out, won't make much of a difference.
If you can feel a 1.66% difference in HP then you have a much more sensitive As& than I do, and probably most people here.

Let's all move to Alaska and maximize our horsepower gains.

screw that, antarctica. we should be hitting 400 according to that 1hp/10 degree formula.
