Actually, it's because we don't consider those condition as "normal", we know the risk and good driver actually adapt to condition. Also true when you get in very wet condition.

That being said, this winter even if I apply what I preach, I got caugth by a large black ice spot at 45 mi/h (in a 55 zone). Lost control because the TCS quicked in... was almost able to get it to stop, but I did hit an ice bank.... had to get the front and back bumper replace.

I was lucky, it could have been much worse at that speed, without my snow tires... man... it would much more then just 2 bumpers.

Are you saying TCS caused loss of control?

Yup... for me it's clear TCS couldn't keep up and created the problem, I felt both wheel pushing while the "skip" light was on, also felt like a lag in TCS reaction, after that I was too busy to get the control back.

As of now, TCS is on only during Summer time. After this, I disengaged TCS when there was snow or feel conditions were changing. I was already disengaging TCS at low speed in snow. (When I lost control, it actually felt the same as when TCS is on at low speed when I turned a corner in snow, that's why I know it's TCS that did it)
