Am I the only one trying to keep the Z forever?
I take care of my 07 as if I am going to keep it forever, thats for sure. If I can keep the car long enough to pay it off, then I will consider owning it for a long time after, but I would have to have a good daily to make this happen.

. It was too new and nice for the last few years (and it's still in great shape) but now I don't mind taking out some of the interior and actually driving the car hard,
.
i want to keep mine forever, but it sure does hurt making those payments and having it sit for the winter and driving my 97 pathfinder with 350,000 km's on it.
there are days that i think i should have bought the STI, but then i take the Z for a rip (a slow snowy drive!!) and i am reminded why i am paying so much- and fall in love all over again. and of course the STI is a very competent car- it just has that look only a mother could love.
and i will say, even though it is not a very practical winter driver this car with decent rubber is very predictable and easy to handle in the slippery stuff.
Nissan FTW!!

I would try to keep mine forever, but since I bought mine used, its not really that worth it. It was still in good condition, great condition actually, but its way more miles than what I would want a nice classic car to have. Plus, one will not be able to enjoy the Z, because it would be in a bubble stored in the back of the garage.

If you are as well , i got some helpful tips .i talked to older guys who collect and restore cars for a living. They had cars in excellent condition. Couldn't help but ask them how they do it.
-don't drill into the firewall because of future rust and metal eating issues(people do this for electronics wires to pull in the cabin)
-Try not to use tar type sound deadening (ie: dynamat, ratmatt, ), stick to the fabric type sound deadening. Trapped in moisture will cause rust and is almost impossible to take off the sound deadener later.
-when jacking up the car, try putting a soft towel under the jack or jackstands so the undercoating doesn't get ripped up and go to the bare metal because of rust
-Don't drive the car with salt on the road
-Don't let water sit in the trunk, floor, or any other metal around the car.
-clean underneath the car once a year
basically, just try to get away from rust issues. These guys said it will become bad down the road and will be much more costly for a restoration. Some of their cars they had were from 1960, never had a rust issue. I thought that was pretty cool. I thought maybe someone would benefit from this.

Instead of just craving something new, I'll upgrade the Z until I've run out of options. If I come to that point, I'm sure I'll have a decent income to the point where I can pick up a different project vehicle and keep the Z.
