Default Am I the only one trying to keep the Z forever?

i'm trying to be one of those guys that keep their cars for a long time. It seems everyone around me keeps wanting something new every couple of years.

If you are as well , i got some helpful tips .i talked to older guys who collect and restore cars for a living. They had cars in excellent condition. Couldn't help but ask them how they do it.

-don't drill into the firewall because of future rust and metal eating issues(people do this for electronics wires to pull in the cabin)

-Try not to use tar type sound deadening (ie: dynamat, ratmatt, ), stick to the fabric type sound deadening. Trapped in moisture will cause rust and is almost impossible to take off the sound deadener later.

-when jacking up the car, try putting a soft towel under the jack or jackstands so the undercoating doesn't get ripped up and go to the bare metal because of rust

-Don't drive the car with salt on the road

-Don't let water sit in the trunk, floor, or any other metal around the car.

-clean underneath the car once a year

basically, just try to get away from rust issues. These guys said it will become bad down the road and will be much more costly for a restoration. Some of their cars they had were from 1960, never had a rust issue. I thought that was pretty cool. I thought maybe someone would benefit from this.

Basically, these guys said

cars are made a bit different now than they were 40 years ago...though these are good tips as rust will inevitably affect any car.

ive got 5 years under my belt with the Z so far...to infinity and beyond

yeah they are. they had a Ferrari and he said that Ferrari dips the entire frame and body in anti corrosion liquid and is the most advance anti rust made.

I will never sell the Z, ever. It has just been slowly morphing into a track/autox only car for me. But I will keep it forever.

It's such a good car, I may keep it too. I had planned to sell it for a Lotus already... but not yet.

I usually get bored with my cars after 2 years of owning them, but I'm gonna try and see how long I can keep the Z.

Im probably gonna keep this Z for a long time as well. At least 10 more years. Its still gonna be my daily driver to work even when I get the next generation Z.

I plan on keeping my Z for a long time. I have a lot of money into it, there is no reason to get rid of it. I hope to get at least 200k miles on it.

I ordered mine, I drove it off the lot with less than 4 miles on the odo.

I'm planning on keeping mine as long as I can. Even with almost 3 years (and three seasons of autocrossing) and over 40K on the odo, the only rattle I have is from my 12V line for my trailer lights -- and that's only because I ran that plastic conduit over the 12V line, and haven't completely tied everything back down.

I keep my new cars for 10 years. I cheated a little by trading in my 35th Anniversary for a 2006 Roadster but, it'll be gone in 2015 with close to or over 300,000 miles.

I plane to keep it along time. I'm in CA so no salt on the roads and I'm far enough from the coast so not salty ocean air. I figure that'll give me a bit of help with rust. It doesn't get driven in the rain and I'm averaging a little less than 2k miles a year so in 50 years I should be just about at 100k miles. I'll buy better car someday I'm young and have time, but I'd like to keep my first sports car.
