dealerships should operate more like casinos...

everyone knows they are taking our money but people keep coming back for the free comps and good service.

when i was car shopping i didn't do as much as i should have b/c i was (not intimidated) but didn't want to deal with the salesman who want to check your credit before they waste time showing u a car. and with service it is so mysterious as to how much and where and what etc.

i've always wanted to start my own dealership and attract good service guys but i guess the profit margins aren't there for an honest dealer

Ok, lemme first off say that I think you're treated wrongly. I think you should be taken care of properly by the dealership.

That said, I think that the dealership does have the right to refuse anyone service. Not saying they should exercise that right, but they do have it.

As far as the warrantee, I think that is Nissan's obligation. AFAIK the warrantee is from Nissan, not the dealer. I could be wrong about this. That said, you would have to seek another dealer.

I think you should do that anyway, regaurdless. This dealership clearly sucks and does not want your business or you on their property. I think it would be foolish to press the issue.

I'm not siding with the dealerships at all. Even tho I think they have the right to refuse service, for their reason, even if it is the wrong one, you should still slam them. Take pretty much everyone's advice. Call NNA, the BBB, the Media, do whatever it takes to give them hell. That is your right.

LOL....65 BILLION in PROFIT??? Where did you read that??

It sucks that you have a lousy Nissan dealer to deal with there! Good luck getting NNA to do something on your behalf.

Huh? Which company is this? Even Microsoft doesn't make close to that much each year nor does it have that much in the bank!

That sucks. I know its a drive, but Jim Click Nissan in Tucson has been great. I bought the car at ABC in Phoenix. The personalized service I receive at Jim Click rivals the service I received on my last Lexus.

Good Luck

Call Tom Martino. He's a consumer advocate. I think his show airs in your area. If you do you WILL get results.

Tom Martino is the King!

Is there an update as to the antics at Peoria? I had a bad experience there myself, before moving back to Denver.

I had to go to my dad's house, loosen all the lugs and retorque them down as the monkey that tightened my wheels REFUSED to use a torque wrench or a torque stick to tighten them. Used the Impact gun to tighten them all, and I could here the gun rattling away on each lug nut from across the shop, looking through the huge window that let's you see everything.

He also overfilled my car by over a quart of oil! Bastards. I don't remember the name of the advisor, but he was a jerk also.

I spoke with Robert Lucero, the Service Manager, about it, and he stated "We have only the best techs, you don't know how to work on cars...".

Then I showed him my ASE Master Certificate card in my wallet, and he blubbered all over himself. Gave me a free oil change and washed my car. Like I'd go back there to have it all happen again anyway!

God, I love being back in Denver, working on cars. I hate it when things like this happens to customers. I'm glad I work for a good dealership.

An update would be nice.

$65billion??? Riiiiiight...

As for all of this. I haven't actually read through the contract that is the warranty and I don't have time to do it right now. However, you will not even believe to what you actually sign yourself to when you sign all the papers at the dealer. They actually told me to hurry up and sign and I told them no because I wanted to read the contracts. It seems to me though that the dealer is trying to CYA (cover your a**). If you go in and make a pain of yourself every single time they're thinking 'hmmm....possible lawsuit here, but if we don't do anything then he can't sue us'. Whether or not they can do this or they are bound by contract not to do it, I'm not sure. What I am pretty sure of, though, is that if you take the advice of some on this board and sue you probably waived your right to jury trial (yes, you probably did sign this).

Hope you get a resolution Jim. Keep us updated..

As for teh 65Billion, don't forget that Nissan is much more then a car company. The parent Japanese corp could very well be turning over that much profit.

Then again, 65Billion is a big number.

This story is almost unbelievable to me. This makes me afraid to ever take my car to the dealership for warranty work. Here is a short story about what happened to me last weekend. I bought the Nismo Exhaust system from a guy on the "other board". I am pretty handy guy and knew I could install it, but I was feeling lazy Saturday so I called the dealership I bought my car from to see how much the install would be and how long it would take. I get the service manager on the phone and tell him I have the complete system and I just want it installed. He tells me it is a 6 to 8 hour install and he had no clue on price!!! I almost fell off my couch. I told him, "your kidding right, it is just pipes and the muffler and 8 bolts; it is supposed to be a 30 minute to one hour install". He tells me that is what one of his techs told him. So I told him, "well if that is true your tech is extremely slow and needs to go back to tech school". He told me in a pissed off manner that they could not install it that day anyways. I could not believe it. I kind of felt like they were trying to rob me. A 6 to 8 hour install time at a dealership, at say $70/hour, would of cost me around $500. That guy was crazy. Needless to say I got my lazy butt in gear and put the car on ramps and installed it in about an hour by myself. And I have to say, great job Nismo, it sounds great and looks great. I just thought I would share that with you people because I was just amazed that he told me that. Now I am thinking about becoming a tech. If it takes them 6-8 hours to install a factory bolt on exhaust system and I can do it in an hour with little experience I think I would be SuperTech to them. haha. Anyways the real reason I am posting on this thread is another story. Not to promote Honda on a Nissan forum, but here it goes. I used to have a 99 Civic SI with more aftermarket mods then I can even remember. It was lowered with eibachs, had aftermarket rims, slotted rotters, intake, exhaust, pulley system, adjustable cam pulley's, and much much more. One day one of my front brake calipers basically decided to explode on me. My car was still under warranty at the time so I took it to a Honda dealership that was right near my office and not the one I purchased the car from. The service manager comes outside and looks at my car with me, and said no problem, it will be ready for pickup in 2 hours UNDER WARRANTY. That is how I think Nissan dealerships should be. Hell that is how every dealership should be. Oh I also had my A/C pulley fall off and they fixed it without a word about aftermarket parts. All this was done, FOR FREE. That service manager was the coolest man I ever met in my life. He really treated me like a King. He loved his job and it showed. NISSAN............TAKE A LESSON!!!

$65b is WAY off ... from earlier this year ...

TOKYO : Japan's Nissan Motor said group net profit for the first half fell 17.4 percent from a year ago to US$2.01b, confirming an unaudited earnings report that marked the first half-year drop in four years.

Net income after tax was 237.7 billion yen (2.01 billion dollars), partly due to higher tax payments, Nissan said in a statement.

As for Jim....UPDATE PLEEEEEASE !!!

Read your warranty. It states you can have your car serviced at ANY authorized Nissan facility. They're "banning" you is a breach of contract that is likely actionable.
Sorry, but not true.

You CAN have it done at any dealer, IF they decide to take you on. They do not HAVE to however. Of course it would be to their benefit to do so but I think Nissan hands out this canned line to all of their dealers. I too was given the old, "I don't think we can do your work since I just don't think we'll be able to please you."

I went to a dealer close to my home since the one I bought the car from was 100 miles away. My local dealer didn't have any preorder slots. I wrote the local dealer what I now refer to as "The Infamous Letter" before they did the tire swap for noise/feathering and the pulling to the right TSB.

Here is the thread if you want to read all the details and read "The Letter"

http://www.350zfrenzy.com/forum/show...&threadid=1751

After reading my letter (one that I now realize was simply too much), they decided to not take me on. I wasn't going to pursue it until I met someone who knew the OWNER of the dealer really well. I spoke with him and he made sure they did my work.

Here is the thread that goes over what happened when I took the car in for the work.

I took the advice of some members over at Frenzy and acted as nice as I could. I even brought in a couple dozen donuts and some coffee for all the guys there and they LOVED me. They did a really nice job and after meeting me they realized that I wasn't a lunatic.

Just another take on this issue.

Good Luck Jim!

I would go in and have a sit down with the service manager and find out what the problem actually is. I can't believe it is because you have aftermarket wheels and if it is due to a negative survey at another dealer, then they are slitting their own throats. I work in a service industry and can understand the fact that some people just CANT BE SATISFIED no matter how hard you try.

If those surveys have that much weight mabey we should all fill them out everytime and be totally honest... might result in Nissan service rising to the level of the competition.

Mabey it is none of my business, but airing dirty laundry on the internet may make you feel better, but will only make the situation that much more difficult to resolve. I just have to laugh when peoples first reaction in some of the above posts is to hire a lawyer. That is what causes so many problems to begin with.

Good luck

You may have a laugh, but you're only fooling yourself and proclaiming gulibility. A business that has a monopoly can bully "problem" customers at will, only the power of the LAW can possibly resolve problems at this stage.

But, first NNA it and BBB it as well. Nothing pisses of judges as much as a recalitrant ***** that goes straight to court.

Xray

List these guys
Email:
Phone #:
Website:
GM's Name:
Service Manager:

And lets bombard them with negative email. Im sick of these guys.
Have you read the recent problems with Bullish and Dan at Smithstown. Who do these people think they are?
Its not smart to mess with someone who belongs to a Z site with over 19,000 members.
If we all hit them with emails and phone calls they are bound to realize that you should not be taken lightly.
Watch out though...here in AZ everyone seems to have a gun...those oil change kids get as disgruntled as postal workers on the weekends!

Totally correct Dr. I was checking over some of my stuff from my dealer and, quite honestly, I didn't find anything that, in my opinion, would require any dealer to service my car.

As for the donuts...always do that. They LOVE them (I've found Krispy Kreme works the best). First thing my dad taught me when I started driving was to bring the mechanics donuts (he also takes one of our service writers golfing since she loves to golf and brings another mechanic a bottle of wine every x-mas plus the donuts). I've never had a problem getting any car worked on, ever.

I can say wholeheartedly that when a customer brings in donuts, or muffins (Big blueberry ones!), that they get that extra little bit of effort. Maybe wash the car myself when I'm done, throw in an air freshener for free, put a little extra "Thank You" note in the story or something.

I've been given golf passes, ski passes, beer (always a shoe in for a mechanic ) donuts, muffins, homemade cookies (the best!) and even a fellas daughter's phone # (she doesn't like mechanics, doomed from the start). It's all good. Appreciation is nice to get once in a while, instead of the usual "stealership tic" instead of Dealership Tech.

My .02¢ worth.

Oh, and Dr. Bonz, I couldn't see the alignment specs on your car (I didn't want to register there just to see them). Any way of PM'ing me your specs? Perhaps I can shed a little light on the issue. I have pretty good luck with the alignments on the Z. I have a spec of my own that seems to do the trick, with no tire wear, and no complaints as of yet.

Default Forget it

Is there another Nissan dealer in your area? (sorry I did not read every post on this thread). If so just go there. Never go back to Peoria or Midway. Even though it would be satisfying to tell them WHY they will never sell you another car, I say just forget it.

Jim, Midway is Too DAMN Big, man. They can afford not to care about some customers. The vaunted infiniti service fell short there as well in their infiniti department. so i bought at pinnacle which is one of the few dealerships inthe area NOT affiliated with Midway.

Good luck, and no matter what your money was well spent. even the best service doesn't do anything for me when I got to go back 10 times the first year for problems. you got a damn good car dude
