an update on the situation
WHat about blocked IP's? I can't access this site from home.....very strange. It says that I don't have access. But my username works fine from work. I have PM'd Takeo and I have posted in the off topic forum but haven't gotten anything yet. I understand that you guys are busy, but if someone could just respond to me so I know what is going on, it would be GREATLY appreciated. I won't mind waiting when I know that someone "might" do something about it later.
Will the real admin of My350z.com please stand up?
Who's responsible for the day to day operation of this site? Tako? Someone needs to step up and solve these problems! As quickly as this site grew, people can find and/or create another one just as quick.
I love this site, and I've been here a long time. But loyalty aside, the real-time nature of the web has made me very fickle about the frustrations I'll tolerate before going elsewhere. I suspect many people feel the same. The simple solution is for the owner to take responsibility and make sure this site keeps running smoothly.

Here's a question, why is it so difficult to get in touch with Takao, and have him take care of it? VQ is an admin, although, NOT, cause he can't do the things that an admin needs to do to fix the site, obviously. If Takao is gonna have a new admin, that admin needs to be able to take any steps necessary to fix any problems that might come up. I'm, not saying that VQ isn't capable, he might just not have the access and/or authority to take the necessary steps. This site has been broken for well over a week now. I mean, come on. If Takao's in Japan or whatever, then fine, but there must be SOME way of getting ahold of him. Call the company that hosts this site, get his contact info. Certainly SOMETHING can be done.
People are talking about leaving this forum. If things don't get fixed quickly, then people will leave, and noone wants that. Also, new people own't stick around long if they come to a forum that is broken right from the get go.

Even if there is no back up to restore the table, the file is still recoverable although it has been deleted. Files are never really deleted, the indexes to the files are cleared. The only time a file is really gone is if the actual blocks that contain the file are overwritten with more data. I don't know your drive capacity so I can't tell you the likelyhood that the file has been overwritten. However, there is the slight possibility that the file was corrupted prior to deletion.
If you want to know how to recover the file it will take admin/root privilidges and a tool. Let me know if you want to pursue this.

I don't believe the same thing applies here. From what I've been reading, there isn't a missing file. A table in the database has been deleted. The physical file on the filesystem which contains the db is still there, and that one file contains the entire db. (Assuming they configured it that way.) So, the table itself that was deleted from within the db is gone forever unless they can restore a backup.

what about the fact that all of these forum websites use basically the same format.
If the file was deleted cant it be recovered from the server or find a duplicate file from another site like 350zfrenzy?

Once again, I believe we are dealing with a database *table* here, not a file. (Based on what I've read thus far.) Your idea is a good one, but I'm guessing that the table in question probably contains site-specific data, and thus is not compatible with any site other than its own.
One thing they can possibly do is restore the database to a different database name, and then export the table (or schema that owns the table).....then re-import that table (or schema) back into this database. That will require the least amount of downtime for the production db.

Exactly! It's funny you mention that, as that's almost verbatim what one of our db admins here at my work suggested.
Unfortunately, that would require someone with access to the db server and the backups and with privs on the machine to accomplish that task, and I think the problem here now is that there's no one around with such access.
Bah, whatever. I can live with it for a while. 99% of what makes a discussion forum good is the people on it.
The site still works enough for people to participate, and that's what counts. I'll stick around, even if things are messed up.

great site with **** poor management.
It's amazing how people's character (or lack therof) really comes out when times get tough. People, the site is down, the people that can do something about it are trying. What more do you want? I personally will wait it out and wish the best towards the problem solvers. After all, they are the reason this site even exists, quirky as it may be at the moment, still. Thanks again VQ and takeo, your hard work does not go unnoticed and is rightfully appreciated by myself and many others.
