Yeah, same here. Used to have a recurring dream in grade school of driving the orange 240Z.

I don't know how this works but it seems to me that options should be put on at the factory or at the dealer. Why would they stop a car at a shipping port and start installing stuff ?

Not me. The day I'm waiting for is the day I drive my new Z off the dealer lot. Unfortunately that's still several weeks off and summer is almost over.

they can probably get some migrant farm workers to install the stuff cheaper here, like $6 a day, I hope they don't put the spoilers on backwards.

Port installed options are very common in this business.
Port installed in many ways can be a preference over dealer installed. The port people install on lots of cars and thus may have a better handle on the correct ways of installation.

In college, I sometimes worked at World Cars, In Jacksonville. They were a company similar to DAS that processed incoming cars. The job was through a temp agency and paid 23.00/day. There were real employees too, that probably made just a little bit more. Those guys jobs entailed, for the BMW line, at least, painting and installing front spoilers, and installing fog lights and stereos. The spoilers and fog lights, I could understand, since they could get damaged in shipment, but never understood the radios. The other cars we did, (Porsche, Mitsu, Subaru, and a couple others, I think) all came in coated in paraffin. The main job was to drive them to a kerosene car wash, pick them up on the other side, and drive them back to the parking lot.

Oh yeah, we did the "paint protection" package on the subarus. It took 2 people wiping the wax on and 2 right behind them wiping it off. Total time 5 minutes or less per car! $599 please!

Default Port Installed Options

I wasn't aware they installed parts at the port either, and when I heard it, at first I was concerned. But after research, I realized that they are much better equipped to get the job done quickly, and correctly. All the parts can be stocked there, and the employees can no doubt get real good at doing this stuff, because they do it so often.

I'd rather have an option installed by a person who has done hundreds, then by a dealer, where mine might be his first.

This is really not fair, I am not getting my Z until the end of september.

I think the pre-order process should be like when you pre-order an X-box or dreamcast. Everybody gets theirs at the same time.

We could do all the paperwork ahead of time so that at midnight of the specified date the dealers hand us the keys and off we go. all for one and one for all.

Antennae is mounted by the dealer otherwise it could get damaged/stolen during transit. Front license plate mount also installed by dealer. If you're able to check your car when it rolls off the truck you'll find everything in the hatch area.

No way, I'm not waiting until November just so we can get them all at the same time! Sorry, but it's better to get them delivered as soon as possible and not sit on them just to avoid making some people jealous. (Of course, I might be singing a different tune if I had a late delivery date!)
