Default Vendor Issues

Hey guys and gals -

I just want your responses on an issue I'm having with one of this sites sponsors.

I bought a shifter from them installed it makes all sorts of noise. I spent over two hours trying to figure a way to make this thing work and it sends all sorts of noise up the shifter and vibrates and is noisy as all get go.

It's a B & M shifter and I have the B & M shifters installed on two other vehicles I own and they work perfectly with very little or no extra noise.
In this application on the 350Z the design or manufacture is just horrid.

So, I emailed the sponsor? and the vendor said they wouldn't take it back. They then supplied a link to their return policy and stated they won't take back used items. I mean come on the shifter has at the most 20 miles on it and show no wear. It's just noisy as hell imo. The only way your going to find out if a part is bad or defective for this condition is if you install it, Right?
I can't believe this vendor. All vendors I dealt with in the past would honor a bad part. Never again will I use a My350Z.com vendor if they do not honor this issue. I'll update you guys as I get a hold of them.

What do I do? I can't see selling it to someone else because I'll get bad trader / feedback. I'd expect the sponsor to take this back and it wasn't apparent on their website that they wouldn't take back defective parts etc..

I can't use this thing because it's so noisy. I guess for the strip is would be nice but, that would be the only place I think someone would like to use it. It shifts crisp. It's just noisy above 4000 rpms. Any takers ???

I'm going to with hold the vendor's name until I talk to their rep in person. The other problem is I'm in Cali and they are in NY so I can't walk in to talk to them or believe you me I would be doing that. I will be traveling to NYC soon but, I'm afraid not soon enough.

Edit to vendor as I can't find the thread to prove it was a sponsor.... So let's call it a parts vendor to keep everyone happy from here on .... thx.

If I'm not mistaken, I thought a lot of the short shifters for the Z were noisy.

If you don't get help from the rep, out with the name. Do not embelish or omit any details.

It sounds like your issue is with the product (i.e. manufacturer), not the sponsor (seller).

There is a thread titled “Mods I wish I would have never made.” One of the most popular items is the B&M short shifter. This forum is a valuable tool if used properly.

that post doesn't really complain about the shifter, it talks about there being bad reviews, but the owners are split. Noise isn't really talked about.

I can't see how this has to do with the sponsor and it being their fault. First, they had an obvious policy, sure there are always exceptions, but I wish people would respect policies sometimes. They are there for a reason. When you have a warranty issue on a product it usually goes back to the manufacturer, not the store you bought it from, this sounds like that scenario.

Second, unless the sponsor is also the manufacturer, I believe you will have more leeway if you contact the manufacturer with your issue and make sure you also have some sort of proof of purchase.

Actually, I have two B & M short shifters on other cars without any issue. Why is the Z different?

Yes, I do plan on speaking to the manufacturer as well. However, normally if your not happy with a new product you can return it within at the min 15 day for a full refund at any store. Not at this online store is my point. I think somewhere in there site it might say. But, it wasn't on the purchase page so I thought I was cool. That what I get for purchasing late at night I guess.

I had the same issue on a Hurst shifter through a vendor because it kept popping out of gear. Dimension was too short for engagement. Vendor didn't have a problem with my returning that one.

As you can see, I like short shifters. Just don't think I should pay for something that doesn't work as discribed. There was no note on the sight "For racing only" or, "Noisier than stock" Matter of fact it lead you to believe there wouldn't be these types of issues with the part.

Now, I'm looking at NISMO Adj. I hear those are not noisy. Any experience with those guys. I get all sorts of opinions and the thread I have looked in do not speak to that issue.

Yeah, I installed one in my JEEP a couple of weeks ago and it's quiet and really short compared to stock. I was hoping that I'd get the same quality / vibration free operation for my Z. I have also had one in my Trans AM for over 10 years and it's quiet. Actually, if the JEEP was noisier I could deal with as it's noiser to start with. Just not on my Z. Everything is quiet except for that silly shifter. I'm back to stock now. The other thing I'm upset with is the fact they have you dremel out the trans tail housing and there was nothing in the online direction on that. However, when you got the shifter one of the instructions was to file out a section of the tail housing. Sooooo, now I'm back to stock with my shifter with a filed out tail housing.... Doh !!!!

Well, I've worked for a lot of retail companies before and all of them had the satisfaction guarantee clause. I like that clause because dealing with the manufacturer can be a pain at times.

OK so if you click into their site @ the home page and nav to the purchase. In the cart under terms and conditions half a page down in very small print it reads:

All returned merchandise must be unused and in its original saleable packaging. Returned items will only be accepted if the items are returned within 7 Calendar Days of the Invoice Date. Heck it took two weeks to get the dang part. Oh and you must have a RMA# that only they can give you. It took them 2 days to respond to me plus a weekend thats 5 day. See where I'm going.

You only get to the above page when your finalizing the purchase and your afraid the darn thing is going to time out on you. You figure it's not that expensive and you have covered most of the risk. Well, this doesn't happen to me but once every 10 years or so.... So, it's my turn.

To be honest - This is a new sponsor and I would never have bought from them. I knew online is a risk .... But, really I didn't expect this B & M to be so noisy because like I said before I've owned two before.

Also this were the KEY features that they advertised.... So, I say not as advertised -

KEY FEATURES

Engineered for Precision Shifts
Shift throw reduced for quicker shifts
Fully isolated design
303 Stainless steel stick
CNC Machined aluminum base
Nylon pivot ball .
Accepts factory ****
Direct bolt on installation

Personally, I will never buy from this company again.....

Anyone want to buy a short shifter. Lol !!!!
