it's probably that EURO dollar killing the US dollar. .
buddy of mine came here form greece and i took him shopping.. and because he had a international passport. .he got an extra 11% off on everything. .DAMN!

I agree with the comments that its a car and nobody buys it for resale but i was an s2000 owner before this and am spoiled in the resale sense.
I drove the car around for 2 years and sold it (easily and quickly i might add) for $1500 less than i bought it.
I have had my Z for a little over 2 years also and im trying to sell it for almost $5000 less than i bought it and its been a hard sell. Keep in mind the mileage and condition of both cars were similar so i know the price difference isnt because of that.
I attribute it to the fact that there are just SOOOOO many 350z's out which kills the demand. Sorry but as much as i love the car, IMHO the z is not even close to reaching the exclusiveness of an s2000 and its resale suffers as a result.

I've been offered by a few customer's for AS IS Price. .about $30,000 being the most. .but once i bond with a car it's hard to get rid of it.
BTW i bought mine with 7k on it for $20,000, and i've probably put about $3500 into it give or take. .Parts wise. Installs self done.
truthfully though fast or not, i love the car as a whole despite a few errors here or there, but as an all around car less i win the lotto, and even then im not selling it anytime soon!

i got my 03 touring with 62k miles for 17,000. i was looking at KBB the other day and the trade in value was like 14-15k and resale was 15-16. I hope to sell it around 100k for 13-14k

i was never talking about the depreciation from buying new. Thats pretty much a given and is the reason i would never buy a new car (just trowing out money IMO). Point of the thread was the resale value of these cars in the used market as compared to similar competing sports/sporty cars (i.e. s2000)

According to Consumer's Reports the resale of the Z is average compared to other cars. Not bad for a car that sells to a limited market. Resale value will vary by region and time of the year. As for the s2000, it is more expensive than the Z ( models start at about $37,000 msrp), does not offer a hard top or an AT (which I prefer), is a 4 cylinder with mpg not much higher than the Z, lacks truly outstanding and classic styling, and has a very hard ride. If that's what you want its all yours. So it goes.

The resale value isn't terrible yet for these cars. You can't follow KBB for a accurate quote either. There is a thing called supply and demand that it does not take into effect. Depending where you are you can negotiate the price from there. I blue booked my z at 15k miles and it was worth 21,900 in 2005. I did it again with 45k miles and got 17,980 private seller. So 30K miles more and two years older it dropped only a little IMO. With what I have on it I feel I could get 19K for it easy. Don't forget most of these Z's that are selling for 16-18 thousand are usually BEAT!! I remember when I was looking...none of them were clean until I came across the one I have now and even then I had to pay more than I wanted to then.

I have always been distressed at the lack of depreciation on the Z. I've been looking at them for years and I've read several studies that said the Z and the G35 have very low depreciation rates.
I ended up getting my 2003 Touring for $19.9k with just under 17k miles.

Im alright with the resale. I have an '03 with 55K miles on it. I owe 10K on it but around here i can get 15-16K for it. Im very satisfied...i can walk away right now with a good 5-6K to put down on another ride if i want to.

Pricing depends on what newer models sell for as well. If you take a look at CarsDirect and see their price guarantee for the trims of a 350z, obviously one would have to be a fool to pay near that price for a used 350z.
For example, if a new 08 base Z is selling for 26,900 in my area, I would not even consider buying a used 07 base Z unless if it were 22,000 and below because if I need to pay more than that, I might as well just buy a new one and not worry about the risks of buying a used vehicle.
And the logic keeps going from there, I would not pay more than 17,000 for a pre 07 base Z because it'd be too close in price to what I would pay for a used 07 base Z.
For example, if a new 08 base Z is selling for 26,900 in my area, I would not even consider buying a used 07 base Z unless if it were 22,000 and below because if I need to pay more than that, I might as well just buy a new one and not worry about the risks of buying a used vehicle.
