Lightbulb 350Z roadster vs S2000

I have searched and read the numerous 350Z vs S2000 threads. A lot of people used the coupe version when comparing it to the S2000. My question is how does the 350Z roadster compare to the S2000? Is the 350Z convertible that different from the coupe?

I used to own a 2001 Honda S2000 silverstone with the red/black interior. I sold it and got a twin turbo all wheel drive 3000GT VR-4. I thought the twin turbo would of been more fun because of the power and torque increase. I really had more fun in the S2000 and have now sold the VR-4.

I love the looks of the 350Z roadster as well as the coupe but if I am getting one it will be the convertible.

The only other car I was thinking about was the STi. I will get to check out an 05 STi after work but have yet to drive a 350Z.

Please give me some opinions on the difference of the 350Z convertible to the S2000. Its not a question of what do I want to buy but what will I be getting into.

Thank you in advance. I hope to be in the forum as an owner soon.

Here are a few pics of my old S2000.

You're probably going to be disappointed with the ZR. It's a lot heavier, and much less nimble. HOWEVER, You'll also be much more comfortable for a DD. I drove the S2K, and I liked it. BUT, There was no way in hell I was going to DD it. I'm very happy with my ZR.

I daily drove the S2K for approximately 2 and half years before deciding it wasn't the most fun for daily driving anymore. I would of loved to keep it as a weekend car but it didn't seem financially worth it to me.

I am not looking to track the Z either but would like a spirited drive every now and then. Does the increase in torque and horse on the Z make up for the weight of the ZR? I know the gearing on the S2000 is what really made it a beast.

kspec what do you mean by S2000 looks better than the S2K? Did you mean the Z looks better than the S2K?

I showed my wife some pics and vids of the Z. She thought the ZR made the S2K look plain. I kind of agree with her. I just want the driving experience to be as much fun. I love the tonneu (sp?) cover that the Z has built in. It just adds to the look of the ZR.

Those are a nice color combo. I will have to post some pics of my Silverstone with red interior when I get home from work.

The only thing I found close on the Z was the silverstone with burnt orange. Its not bad with the black inserts.

Well, On Friday, my buddy weighed in at 2800 with his hardtop on. My ZR with all the extra weight from the SC, and the 'weight reduction' from the CF, I weighed in at 3850. Both weights with Drive, he probably was 50 pounds lighter than me (freaking stick men). He had some bolt ons and was running 14.7 at the track. I was running 14.4 @ 5psi (310rwhp).

Also, when my car was ran at the road course here, my buddy with the s2k was running 1 second faster in his stock S2K. I think the time would have been closer if he was more comfortable (ie his car not someone elses), I didn't have stock pads, and my ZR wasn't an auto.

Also, the top litterally takes twice as long as the s2ks.

Honda S2000 looks like a total SNORE to me. Booooring.

The Z is just pure sex. Plain and simple.

Wow, that track must've been prepped pretty bad to run those times... Either that or the drivers are at fault.

Wow that much horsepower and only 14.4? Is the weight really that much of a factor? I only have plans of doing E/I test pipe. I know that won't net a whole lot of gains but hopefully give some decent numbers.

I just want the car to have some go along with the show.

Yeah our track sucks. Rarely do they actually prep it. It's open for PR reasons more than anything else.

Don't look at the absolute values. Use it more to compare. Our track times here are slow. I think a Coupe was running 15.1 that night with minor bolt ons (I/E)

I have one other question in comparing the 350Z stick and autostick. Someone posted the autostick is just as fast as the manual. Is this true when using the manual option on the automatic?

I have found some awesome deals on the ZR but what is turning me away is some are auto. If I am going to pay on this for a while I want to make sure I won't regret not getting the 6spd.

Save yourself the headache and heartbreak.. Get the 6MT.
I got a 5AT because the car was exactly what I wanted, less the 6MT. After considering the price, it was cheap enough for me to say fawk it and I bought it. I would still like a 6MT, but I have no complaints with the 5AT. In traffic, I've got the biggest grin on my face.

The stick is definitely more fun, especially if you're already used to driving it. As far as times go, I believe the 6-speed wins nearly every time in the 1/4 mile.

I think it depends. A bad 6MT driver will get owned by a bad 5AT driver.
Looking at the 60's, Dom did really well with his auto.
