I don't tend to act up much while driving, but my Z had been down with some wiring problems that I just got fixed last week. I took it out for a test run and all was going well so I decided to have a little fun. I pulled off onto another road aggressively and got some wheel spin. It got the best of me and I kept in the throttle. I didn't go very far and it felt like it cut power on me. I was bouncing between 3k 4k rpm like I was hitting a rev limiter and it was jerking with me. Yes I had TCS off, no it wasn't wheel hop, no foot on the brake.

 

Yea this morning I was pulling onto a road and the wheels were slipping because apparently it was still slick from last night. It cut power off and I was barely moving. A car was coming and I barely managed to get into the other lane.

I turned TCS off and the wheels just started spinning and I started fishtailing.

Don't know what was up with the road, it must have been iced over, because my car wasn't too pleased with the thought of going forward.

The OP didn't provide much detail in the "wiring problems" he had, but those are important details to know before speculating on any sort of fix.

 

may be one wheel not touching on the ground if do so its slip differential.

Edit: Forgot to say when it was boucing of 4k, it would do it until I let off.

 

Does your car rev limit in neutral @ 4K? Mine does. I think without a load on the vehicle the computer does this so you don't spin a bearing from over revving it. I noticed that week one that you can't rev past 4K in neutral without the engine / computer being unhappy. I don't have any problem revving to 7000rpm as long as I have a load on the drive train and moving forward. After that the rev limiter kicks in. I have the non-rev up / non-HR motor being my car is a 04.5.

 

my 04.5 definately has nothing like that....

 

i can rev my car to 8k if i wanted to(not that I ever would) when its not under load. Even the regular rev limiter doesn't kick in...and definitely not at 4k...

Maybe they changed something in the CPU for '04 or '04.5 and above? You really don't want to rev the motor past 4K coming off the line / without load on it / spinning it on ice etc... Mine has always run that way and NISSAN said the CPU limits it with the clutch in. I also have a 6spd. I too can rev it over 4K rpm for a couple of seconds. After that if you hold it anything above 4K rpm it cuts out. I've only done it a couple of times because like we said it's not good to do this anyways. I was wondering if I could do a 5K rpm launch. However, had I done that I would have broken the rear end most likely. Safety Feature.

 

Hum, never caused any issues. Maybe it was a break-in profile for the computer. In that case, I'll need to see if it still does this tomorrow since I'm past break-in now. Maybe it's only during warm up ??? You know until you reach op temp?

I'll give it a try tomorrow .... not stone cold ... but before full op temp ... then again after op temp.... with / without clutch in neutral.

break in profile might be a reasonable idea. I know BMW down tunes the M's until they're broken in, maybe Nissan limits the revs??

No, after I stopped spinning it started acting weird on the revs. I'm going to go see if it still does it and try to get a video on my phone.

I tried the best I can on the videos. I can rev it pretty much as far as I want with no load. I got the problem in first with tire spin. I tried it without spinning and just aggressive driving and didn't get it in first, but got it in second.

On this one I had it throttled down pretty good all the way through. You can see it drop down to around 3200rpm later, even though I still had it down hard.

ohh. .acting weir don the revs it's possable. .your AIR mass sensor might be going on you. .or the throttle body may need either an update/ new one!!!!

lately been getting lots of nissans in for MAF's and TBS's. ..

 

Ahhh, crap. Don't tell me that. Are the '03 and '05 MAFs the same? I might be able to swap my dad's in to see if that's it.
