I am going car shopping this weekend, and I noticed a good deal of AT's in 350Z's for sale right now. They don't seem to be moving off the used car lots that fast. I plan on test driving both, but want to hear your input. Seems as though dealers would strike a better deal on an AT before manual. I'm seeing 2006 Tourings in the 22k range with pretty low miles (AT).
personal opinion.. an a/t is not meant for a sports car.. if your getting an altima, go for the a/t but i cant understand why some one would buy an a/t 350.. i sit through over an hour of traffic every day, its kind of a pain in the ***.. but totally worth it, i like having more control of my car.

Once again, don't listen to any elitist punks that knock on you for getting an auto. They are the ones with the problem, not you.

I got an auto and i absolutely love it. There is nothing wrong with the auto. I dont really have time to take it to the track, and i certainly dont have the money to mod it up. Sure, i wish i had gotten a manual since it IS a sports car, but the auto is still fun to drive. If you plan on definitely getting into modding, you should go for the manual, but I dont really regret going auto. If you are just looking to get a nice, fun car, the auto is great as well. And if you end up liking both, you may want to get the manual just in case later on down the road you want to seriously mod.

its all personal preference. i DD the 6MT and traffic can be a pain, but to me its worth it and i would have it no other way. If you can get the auto and be just as happy, why the hell not? I just feel more in control and like the more sports car feel with the 6MT. i have a friend who just got an 07 5AT, says he'd rather have the 6mt. but i'm sure he's happy lol

plus, when half my friends ask to drive my car, i have an easy answer cause most of them can't drive stick and ones who can i can trust driving my car because they know what they're doing.

just my .02, get what YOU'LL be happy with. good luck

I love these auto vs. manual threads. And auto guys, please take NO offense..a Z is a Z. But has anyone EVER saw a thread titled "I have a 6-MT and wish I got an Auto"? Or something similar. Auto guy who post a reply usually has a few key words like " I love my auto BUT..."

....no I have an auto and I enjoy it! Those who say that you should have a manual if your going to seriously mod is kinda crap too. There are a lot of ppl who turbo and get to a limit where they cannot shift fast enough and end up swapping for a high performance auto. In the end its going to be your car and your the one who is driving it, so get what you like best.

Love my AT. I grew up on MTs and probably can handle one as well as most on the board. If you are using the Z for everyday driving the AT can't be beat. It is smooth, quick, and the shift points kick in quickly with virtually no hesitation. It feels as if the AT was designed for the car.

Driving an MT is not to be taken lightly. I've read a lot of posts from MT drivers who have had no training or experience with their transmission. Putting an MT Z in the hands of untrained drivers borders on abuse. You just tear the hell out of the transmission and engine with no understanding of what you are doing, all in the name of macho control. A sad fate for such a special car. And so it goes...

did anybody mention you have the option to shift through gears in the 5AT. I have the automatic and I love it. Long drives = no problem, traffic = no problem, spirited mountain runs = no problem.

I have a 05 6mt my friend has a 04 5AT sometimes we swicht cars I'm glad I have a 6mt but after driving his car all day in congested traffic or after a long day at work or at the gym the AT has its advantages.

And when you look at some of the problems with the 03-04 350Z it was with the syncqenizer in the 6sp Mt transmission usually it was under warranty but that was one of the problems. Mines has the upgraded 6 speed in it so all is well but 03-04 might be better off with a 5AT less trouble seems to be.

It's been proven if you know how to drive the 5AT its just as fast. We don't haven't raced were too old for that. My car feels faster but it also feels faster the a Cayman S until you look at the specs.

If I got a 350ZR I'd want it in 5AT, a 6speed won't be bad but I already have one. I use to feel a SC not a SC unless it manual, ATs have come a long way baby.

Okay, time to lock the thread. The last couple of posts are turning this thread into what the other 5k posts on this subject are. There was some decent discussion up until now.

I have an 07 A/T ......... Do I regret it? Nope.

Things I Do Not have to worry about while driving an automatic.
Stop and go traffic.
Missing a gear while spraying.
Blaming losses on missed gears.

You will see many people here bad mouth automatics. For what ever reason who knows why. Just remember when ya beat one of these guys with a MT let em know they lost to an A/T, they like that
