Question Leveraging Zisme's information?

Anyone who hasn't gotten their VIN have you used some of the things Zisme outlined?

Yeah, but the dealer still has no clue, I showed them the report numbers and still didn't know what I was talking about, he says that they see mine and one others VIN but can't show me anything, either he doesn't know or his manager is keeping everything close to the vest, which makes me nervous as to what they might be thinking of doing with my car.

westpak, if you have an order placed with the dealer, there isn't much they can do. You have first right to buy or refuse the car when it arrives. It's really no different than ordering any car from a dealer. These just haven't existed in 6 years. If your dealer tried to sell your pre-ordered car to someone else you'd have one hell of a law suit on your hands.

Thanks for input, maybe it's just dealing with these guys for such a long time you start to get paranoid, usually I am done in a day or two, 6 months has been too long to let things roll around in my head, I'll just write it off as their incompetence rather than deviousness, but I'll keep my eye on them.

The major concern I have is that my dealer has more to win if I decide to NOT go through with the deal than if I do go through with it. If he can tick me off enough to get me to back out on the deal, he can sell the car for more $$ with almost no additional effort. I expect to get a whole bunch of add on charges or additional hurdles to get over as I close the deal. I will have my cell phone in hand and will have the number of the local Better Business Bureau with me. I fully expect to have to make the call, and plan to do it in front of the Sales Manager, but I know as well as he does that he has the car and I want it. Not a good negotiating position.

They have us by the short ones for sure, I was there today and they were talking about how after the preorder they will be able to mark them up, and how people are starting to come in and ask about the Z, while I was there someone came asking what was the latest on the Z. The only thing I have going, I think, is that they asked for a large deposit and non refundable so I think I would have good grounds to fight them, hope it doesn't come to that and it is a pleasent experience, but I'll be ready just in case.

This is precisely the kind of **** I'm afraid of. Dealer withholding information because they want to see if they can sell the car from under you. I have personally been waiting 1.5 years for this car. I put my downpayment on the car when there wasn't even a waiting list. I swear if they sell the car from underneth me I'll sue. I'm actually going to call my lawyer today to see what kind of case I'll have ahead of time. I'm not saying this is a common dealer practice - I am however saying that the ones who try and pull this kind of **** ruin it for all the other good dealers.

I'm prepared to fight for my damn car.

I went down to the dealership today... attitude changed quite a bit from the last time I spoke. I went down to the dealer and there a lot more responsive. They gave me a 6 digit serial number? Hmm... no idea but at least it's more then nothing.
