Default 1500 mile trip

I need to get some opinions on either getting my 04 ZR shipped to me or make the drive. I bought the ZR about a week ago. I arranged to have a company find me a truck to get it here. They say it will take two days, think they have a driver lined up, and then something happens and they back out.

The car is in Orlando, FL. and I am in Garden City, KS. If I would fly and make the drive myself it would be around 25 hours and put on around 1500 miles. I figure the price for me to fly, gas, food, and hotel would be around 500.00 give or take a little. The price to have a truck bring the car to my door is 700.00. The car will be picked up from the dealership and stay on the same truck until it arrives. It is also insured.

I am just wondering what you guys think would be better. I told the shipper I would wait until next tuesday before I decide to make other arrangements. Do you think it would be worth flying down and making the drive myself. I made the drive with my father a few years ago when I picked up my S2000. That was a hell of a drive. Fun but just a long time in a small car. I know the ZR's interior is a bit bigger though.

Just wanting some opinions if this was your car. Thanks.

If it were me and I could get a few days off from work I'd definitely go for the road trip. Take a couple of extra days and enjoy the drive and the new car. You're going to spend the money one way or the other so you might as well have some fun doing it.

I can understand that. Either way the car will get here and I will have to pay for it. I just would hope the weather would be decent if I decide this was what I was going to do.

If I do end up going I am going to take off this Friday, that way I would have 3 days to get home. I am thinking I would get home late Saturday but it would be a fun drive. My wife wouldn't be able to go so I would be making the trip solo. I have plenty of cds though that can make the trip go by. That and the sound of the engine

book a ticket and fly to Florida and drive that sucker back home!
On your way back, I am pretty sure you will have a Once-in-a-life-time experience!!!(oh, and if you happen to get lucky in FL or on the way back because of this new car, I will not tell!!!)

Thanks for the replies. I guess I will give the shipper until this tuesday. If they don't find a driver by that time I will be booking a flight and leave this friday.

LOL 350Z-noob, I don't think my wife would like that too much. She would wonder why the trip took 27 hours instead of 25 lol.

I do like the fact that it would be a great way to break it in and get used to it. Some good bonding time

I will keep you guys updated that are interested thanks!

Fly down there and pick it up. A roadtrip with your new car would be a great way to start the "relationship".

Make the drive back home. I did when I bought my ZR. I flew down to Tenna. & drove back to Ohio....what a fun drive!

By you going down in person, you'll be able to check out the car yourself & you'll know exactly what you are getting. Remember one thing, the shipper can also screw things up too!!!!.. Make the drive!

With the gas prices the way they are you will spend more than the $700 to get it shipped. It would however, be a great way to start you Z experience.

Well I don't know if it will be worth flying now. When I looked up flights last week I was able to find a super cheap flight of around 144! Now today I looked and the cheapest was 318. That previous flight must have been some special. Even paying the 318 wouldn't be too bad though. I will check out the weather and see what happens with the shipper.

I have had a deposit with a shipping broker for around a week. They are supposed to find a truck. The price of shipping is already worked out at 699. I can however get my deposit back anytime if I decide to fly out. Hopefully I will hear something from the shipper today or tomorrow. Maybe waiting to book my flight might be better.

I wish I wouldn't have let that flight for 144 get away!

Keep calling other Airlines...prices change, possibly cancellations or just to fill the seats.
Also you would want to check out your roadster top while your there too!
Just like I said on the other forum.

1500 miles at 25 MPG would require 60 gallons of gas. Even if premium grade was $4.00/gal it would only cost $240.00 for gas.
