See.. When I got my Z. Well when I was planning on getting it. I thought I'd be filling up atleast twice a week. So I figured 400 dollars a month of gas into my Z as a plan. Like worst case senario. Plan ahead when getting a car so this consideration your having dsn't come into effect. Granted I average 40 dollars a week for gas is kinda half way to my expectations on gas. If I thought I couldn't handle my worst case senario I'd be driving the new 4 door si civic....

Hit up some public transport if it's possible... I live in an outer suberb of Brisbane some 30kms from the city.... If i drive in I have 30kms of fuel to pay for plus parking.... Bus, which leaves every 15min about 200m from my house = $3.

If the shopping mall is close walk to get your groceries, it's good exercise and as ricers would say... the weightloss from your body = more power

Invest in a bike and peddle your way to your shorter distances.

I think everyone on here could find a few stupid random trips they can easily cut out of their routine! OP- I'm not familiar with your situation, but try see when you can drive the car less, don't sell it, just drive it less than need be, think of it as a last resort.

You want the price of gas to drop like a rock? Open up what we have here at home. We are sitting on some of the largest oil reserves in the world, ones that we have yet to even touch. Hell, we haven't built a refinery in over 25 years and have had to start importing gasoline as well as oil.

Open the sh*t up and watch the price of gas plummet. Problem solved.

The Z is more of a fun car in this house than a DD; the DD gets slightly better mpg and on regular fuel. So it does cost less to operate than the Z. Gas is expensive right now no matter *what* i'm driving. We're paying minimum $3.86 for 92. When we bought the Z we knew it would drink a fair amount of expensive gas, but with the $20G we saved over buying a new 'vette, we can buy a LOT of gas. Less hp with the Z, and fewer features (base model), but it's what we wanted, it's more reliable, it's more fun... heck with the price of gas. Not selling. No matter what.

You're the only one.

I'd never sell my Z because of gas prices. Besides, we're not the ones getting the raw end of the deal. My father's got a 400 hp diesel Ford Excursion and he's paying $4.15 a gallon for diesel. OUCH.

The cost of gas is what it is. Selling the Z for something else will not make you recoop funds at all. You might see a few and very few dollard difference a month.
Just dont wind it out when you drive, or drive something else as a daily. Honestly Im thinking about driving my Z more then my Pathfinder because the gas mileage, but overall it equals out I am sure from 87 in the Path to 94 in the Z.

Just deal with it.

No. If I could not afford to put gas in the car I would not have bought the car. Imagine when the clutch goes if you cant even afford gas.

Do 4 dollars really matter when you are spending 70+ regardless? I think your question should be whether you want to drive a car at all.

I only get 19-20 mpg average on my Z with easy driving. If I went and got a Prius (heaven forbid), or a VW Diesel of some type, we would see over 40 mpg, or even 50 on the Prius.

That is a huge savings every fill up. Right now it costs me $50-55 to fill up the tank on the Z, every 1.5 weeks at the moment since I cut my driving down due to gas prices. I use to pay $25 a fill up 2 years ago on my G35! I sold my Nissan Titan to cut down on gas costs, and I am back to where I was in 2004 filling up the Titan. It would cost me near $75-80 to fill that truck up now.

So yes, getting a more econnomical car these days does make more sense than it use too. The higher the gas gets, the more sense it makes. If we reach $5 a gallon which I am sure will happen, it's going to cost us close to $90-100 to fill up the tank on the Z. That isn't going to be fun.

Default Gas price

I've just moved here from London where gas costs almost $10 a gallon , so I don't mind the prices over here Although, I do remember when it was $1.29 on base, long time ago

Things will only get worse
