Gas Prices - Consider Selling Z?
With the price of Premium gasoline has anyone considered trading their Z in for a more gas efficient car? I'm hurting with the monthly drainage of gas for the Z... I don't want to sell but see the value in being more practical.
Am I the only one ?

Considering I have a daily driver that does alright on gas I would not sell my Z. I think that the Z will hold its value well even during times of high gas prices because it is considered "fuel efficient" for a 300hp sports car.

actually from what ive realized, if you drive the Z with restraint then you will get better gas mileage than most 4 cyl. cars. Now i say this having owned a 200sx. In that car i was always revving the engine out to keep up wth merging and such, and at part throttle the Z is faster than that car and more effiecient. Now the problem is that i have a problem with the throtlle, which is why my average mpg is around 21-24, now when ive done mostly highway driving i get around 26-27 which to me is very goo dconsiderin the 200sx would only do 30mpg at best with rough driving. Now last year i went on a 100 mile roadtrip and cruised at 50 mph, i got 44mpg :-0....its all about how you drive and weight of rims and car....honestly, stick with the Z, you'll regret it in the long run... o and im just speaking from personal experiance so not everyone else may have the same opinions....expecially not the t/c guys, they prolly kill gas everytime they gun it, but then again they got a larger smile also when they do...

gas is screwed up because the middle east is upset with the US being in that part of the world right now, on September 1st 2001 gas was $20 a barrel, today it closed at $108 a barrel, and yes it isnt a ton of savings that you will make by getting a prius or the sort, sorry for the rant but politics has been pissing me off latly

What do you mean the price of premium gasoline? It is only 20 cents more than regular gasoline where I live. 20 gallons at $3.50 is $70. 20 gallons at $3.70 is $74, you are crying about 4 dollars? Do 4 dollars really matter when you are spending 70+ regardless? I think your question should be whether you want to drive a car at all.

Pencil out your options:
Figure a hypothetical 300 miles:
20 MPG average = 15 gal gas X $3.50 = $52.50 premium gas
25 MPG average = 12 gal gas X #3.50 = $42.00 premium gas
30 MPG average = 10 gal gas X $3.30 = $33.00 regular gas
you would save either $19.50 or $9.00 assuming 20 or 25 MPG in a Z vs 30 MPG in a smaller car on regular gas. Not a huge savings and, depending on how much you lose selling the Z and how much you spend on another car it might take you a long time to realize any significant savings.

MY GOD THE BOYS RIGHT!!
This is why I hate it when my friends go "I think im gonna get regular gas instead of premium cause its cheaper" and they only realistically save like $1.50 after the fill up. WOW good choice.

Z i get 24.8 miles to the gallon and thats about 50% 50% driving city and highway. I drive her slow except for every now and then ill get on it. I shift at around 2.5k and am in 5th or 6th gear after 45. I cant find a car worth trading in for. I used to get 13.5 miles to the gallon in my 03 silv. SS now thats when i can understand trading for something else. Not the Z though.

Hello, i'm a new member here, interested in getting a Z, but the upcoming 370z is holding me back for now, but i'll see.
Anyways, let’s expand this out to a yr and calculate at the CA gas prices where the OP is from. Assumption : ~3.95/gal (that's how much it is where i'm from excluding Arco stations around the Bay Area in NorCal) and daily driver with 15000 miles a yr.
15000 miles / 20mpg * $3.95/gal = $2962.50
15000 miles / 25 mpg * $3.95/gal = $2370
~ $2666 in between
Vs a 4 banger w/ a very optimistic 30mpg or 27mpg average with regular gas
15000 miles / 30 mpg * 3.75 = $1875
15000 miles / 27 mpg * 3.75 = $2083
So, your choice of saving ~$700/yr ( ~$58/month )

Um What?
Its just kind of funny ya mention selling the z to get better gas milage, I just bought a Z because it gets better gas milage( And I like the hell out of them).
I went from a 1999 EddieB Explorer getting 13-17 city\19-21 hwy to my Z which is considerably better at 21-24 city\ 25-32 hwy.
Of course I used the higher grade gas in both, I still dont know why i felt the 5.0 in the explorer required high grade but it did get better gas milage with it. Sadly the explorer averaged at best about 17mpg with all around driving.

from my understanding the only purpose of buying a hybrid car at the moment would be for the environment. If your true desire is to save money on gas, then you'd be much better off buying a cheap scion or civic instead of paying a premium for a hybrid.
wasn't it also proven that estimate miles per gallon for hybrids was highly exaggerated by the manufacturers? they claimed 50+ miles per gallon whereas many customers only had real world mpg's in the 30's...
back to your topic. like someone else said, mildly driven the Z will give you better mpg and power than a 4 cylinder that you have to rev high just to have enough speed to merge or do quick lane changes. my TSX gave me only like 18 mpg whereas my Z with equal acceleration gives me 20.
