Default guys, I need info quick

my car is at the dealership as we speak getting the clutch recall work done. I got a call from the service rep and he told me he had to charge 100.00 because I have aftermarket dual exhaust and it takes longer to remove. Does this sound right? What is the name of the governmental entity that regulates what they can and cannot charge? I remember hearing someone talk about this.

Not sure about the government entity but $100 seems like a little much for the extra work. I would find out how much longer the work is going to take. In Atlanta, I think labor is about $70/hour, so I guess if they figure it is going to take them 1.5 hours (give or take) extra to do the work, that could be right but is the exhaust really going to take them that much longer to take off and put back on?

$100 seems excessive but the dealer has a point.

Your set-up is more complicated to remove install than the OEM exhaust. The after market exhaust is not the responsibility of the dealer. Remove and install is on your dime.

It is a common, accepted, and ethical practice for dealerships to add a surcharge for any repairs, including warranty work, if modifications or aftermarket parts increase the labor or complexity of the repair.

I don't know if $100 is an appropriate amount, but the surcharge is is a common dealership policy.

i guess the dealer has the right to do that. but its a BS excuse. if anything, the aftermarket exhaust is probably easier to remove than stock. the bolts would be less seized from heat, etc. since they are newer than stock exhaust wouldve been.

Stealerships have to make a living fellas, should have anticipated additional charges from the dealer with aftermarket parts. Just being realistic

it doesnt take any extra time at all, it is just a few bolts just like it is on the stock system, they just want to make a few bucks off of you

Yeah, just ended up paying the 100.00. My exhaust is not anymore difficult to remove than the stock...he said there were "2" pipes instead of "1". So he had to charge me 1 hour of work...BS if you ask me. What is even more ridiculous is they are supposed to be big supporters of the local Z club.

Some dealers are mod friendly. Some are not. Live and learn.

100$ for an hour labor is crap. You could have gotten 5 lapdances for that.

You obviously haven't seen or dealt with a Borla - it's got 17 pieces. It's also a ***** to get aligned properly so the tips line up.

You would've at least gotten a discount on the labor had you been an actual paid member Are you?

My dealership was going to charge me extra for the exhaust (had an HKS Hi Power) but ended doing it for free because they didn't quote me on the original estimate for the extra cost and noticed the issue after the exhaust was already off.

Why do they have to take the exhaust off?

I have done probably 30 of those recalls and have yet to pull the exhaust off one to do it.
