Maybe they didn't take it off and just wanted a reason to charge. Most aftermarket exhausts doesn't take anymore time than the stock.

What's funny is, they will charge you to do something and charge not by how long it takes them, but by a book that states how long it should take. This means that if it takes them 30 min to do the job, they will charge you what the book states (2 hrs). But of course, you and I are not suppose to know this. And half the time, if not more, they don't know what the hell they are doing.

If there are any mechanics here, please don't respond to this if you disagree. I've known ppl (family and friends) who have worked for dealerships as a sales person and mechanics. They tell me all the dirty secrets. Not blaming mechanics for the charge, it's the dealerships who says what to go by. But I do blame alot of the mechanics for not knowing what they are doing. I've got some stories that have happened to me personally.

You don't have a clue.

Book time us what you are "supposed" to use, That protects "YOU" the consumer from getting screwed.

You have every opportunity to look at "The book", If you don't, thats your own fault.

this works both ways though.

its good for the consumer, because you know exactly what you will pay before your car goes in the shop. no surprises because something took longer than expected.

and if you feel the labour charge is too much. then you can easily take the car somewhere else.

although most jobs take less time than whats on the book. things like troubleshooting, or work on old rusted out vehicles. means the mechanic might take much longer than book time. but he still only gets paid book time.

i wouldnt doubt that alot of mechanics dont have much of a clue down there. the US system for tradesman is horrible. they dont even RECIEVE half the training, we are REQUIRED to have in canada. but you cant paint everyone with the same brush. most of the really horrible mechanics would be fired, for doing sh!tty work.

Just find a new dealership. The service rep at mine is tight as hell. Tranny replaced for the second time with aftermarket TD with no questions asked.

Maybe that says more about the people who buy ATs vs MTs. It also has a lot to do with the number of AT cars vs MTs. More MTs driver harder than fewer ATs driven easy means that more problems will arise in the MTs.

The clutch is covered under the powertrain warranty if they have to swap out the entire tranny. But if the tranny is fine they will just tell you your clutch is normal wear-and-tear.

FWIW I just had my tranny/clutch replaced under warranty. I have the Borla TD and they didn't charge me a dime. Tustin Nissan FTW.

But then a week later my parking brake cable came loose and was rubbing the tranny. I'm assuming this was their fault. Took it back in and they fixed it in 10 minutes. Tustin Nissan FTW?

A few days later one of my undercarraige air diffusers was flopping around held on by only 1 loose screw. Tustain Nissan mechanics FTL.
