The Renesis does not take as well to boost as the wankel. It has higher compression rotors. Though I have seen one turbo'd 8 here in Tulsa that is pretty dang quick.. VERY clean.

Actually the Renesis can handle boost better than the old FD'S. Much like changing the pistons, rods, and what not in a regular engine, on a Renesis the weak part is the apex seals that are made from steel. Exchange for ceramic and the engine itself can handle a lot more. Once this is done its the other parts of the drivetrain that can fail. The transmission is the next to go. But there are alternatives offered for that. The rear drive axels after that but once again there are aftermarket ones that hold over 800hp. Then the driveshaft would be next. Only capable of holding 600hp. Then just switching to a different carbon fiber driveshaft is all that is required. I guess I should mention spark blow out at around 350-380 hp. But also aftermarket parts can be used to upgrade it. Yes I own one, so I tend to know a little bit about them. FYI. Oh, and before anyone says about them making more power...its a three rotor compared to a 2 rotor.

i think the rx8 failed to insipire the return of the rotary engine with the rx8. Its concept of a hybrid sports car was nice but , the motor clearly isnt up to par with any of its competetion putting up numbers that civic si's are comparable to1/4 wise is nothing to brag about. And im not sure of the rx8s interiror quality being better ...personally i think there on par with jap quality but do believe the rx8 has better interior then any other mazda besides the suv they have. Nissans interior quality to me is def superior , i sat in mazda 6s etc very enterprise rental car status lol.

If the RX8 came turbo they would be compareable stock... an RX7TT is way faster than a 350z on a track modded or not, but on a drag the 350z will be faster once modded. The same goes for the RX8... the only difference is the 350z has so much more power than a RX8 that it's better on a track stock. So basically: RX8>350z in hadeling RX8<350z in power, so it really depends what's better in your eyes. 350z=Muscle RX8=Nimble

RX8 FTW... if you like adding 1 quart of oil every 1,500 miles or so... even the dealership recommends it

RX8 puts out 120lb-ft torque to wheels stock, that's less than a Civic!

the rotary drinks oil like gas. until that engine is perfected it fails in that category. but the handling on the rx8 is definitely better.

I agree here. The 8 looks nice. I got to test drive one out the other day. I was expecting the same feeling the 9K redline would give me from my old S2000. The power and torque just wasn't there. The owner of the 8 drove my Z. He said he liked the Z a lot better. That says something.

I def prefer the S2000 over the 8 but the Z over both.

I have a buddy addicted to the rx8 forums and those guys think their mortal enemy is the 350z. Its two totally different classes of car. If you put a 350z vs rx8 on a track with very little straits 8 will mostly likely win. Just to get the 8 to be near the power to a Z, at same cost you could give the Z superior handling. But I serious doubt anyone would compare them on a drag strip.

I just replied to a "350Z is only for driving straight" post on an RX-8 forum. Here is what I wrote;...

In the LL1 class, only the Nissan 350Z could beat that [Evo's] time, with a best lap of 3:12.5....."

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...-5+page-8.html

Every car is a set of compromises. I have driven both the Z and the 8 flat out on a track, and I understand why some people would prefer the 8 over a Z. (It's lighter, and it handles better than a Z.)

But to say "Z=straight line" is BS. The Z handles well and its set of compromises allowed it to get around VIR (turns and all) quicker than the 8.

IMHO, The 8 gave up too much power in order to improve handling. I bet the 8 would handle even better if the weight of the motor was removed and the suspension was tuned to take advantage of the weight loss.

The car would be awesome on twisty mountain roads. (As long as you drove down the mountain.) But most drivers would consider 0 HP and 0 Torque too much of a sacrifice.

Sacrificing power for handling isn't a bad idea, up to a point, but that "point" will be different from one driver to the next.

glad to see some people here know what they are talking about....

most dont though...

since when has power = better??

the fact that a 220hp car is even close to a 300hp car says something right there...

most of the people here are making themselves look like idiots
