Default Roads vs. Fun

Now that I have moved to the Northeast, I am surrounded by horrible, horrible roads infested with potholes. Whenever I drive, I want to punch everyone in the NJ DOT for letting the roads get so bad and doing nothing about it. How does everyone else here deal with terrible raods 24/7? I should take a video of my going down rt 18 in Jersey, they have raised manholes right in the middle of the street...LOTS of them. It feels like your car is going to explode

This is my venting thread, you can let it be yours also.

What type of long term damage are these horrible roads doing to my Z???

I can deal with shock/strut damage, it it more the damage to the body/frame i care about. I don't want it getting all twisted and damaged I don't really scrape at all, it's just the rough bumps all over

haha welcome to NEW JERSEY. yea the roads are horrible espically in north jersey. if you take your z into south jersey its not bad. the thing that you have to remember is you now live in one of the most congested area in the most congested state. rt18 and rt 1 are the worst. but def if you want take your car down south where its less congested the roads will get better

Especially being that NJ is one of the highest taxed states!

I definitely know what the OP is going through. They way you can tell is if you ever find a good flat, smooth road, your mood suddenly soars. It's an odd, sad feeling.

I can't stress how true this is Very sad that this only happens at that time.

I planned on keeping my Z forever, but I don't know if it can take all of this. I guess I'll just keep driving it down the roads I know are good and no where else

Yeah, I know what you mean. The city I live in has some of the highest taxes and by far some of the worst roads I have ever seen.

Default Bad Enough

I sympathize. Our roads aren't "that bad" but I am ready to put my THIRD Greddy lip on. Bought and painted last fall but waited til spring to put it on. Now I am thinking about driving from here to AZ. Would love to put it on for the look, but thinking I might wait til I get back just in case. Damn.

Gas tax---HA. When gas prices started going up people started driving less. NE gov't in their infinite wisdom threatened to raise the gas tax because they weren't collecting enough. This of course made people want to drive less, on, and on, and on.

Virginia....that state may have issues with illegal immigrants, but when you can pay 5 what you pay 1 worker up here, you get good roads!

VA (all but Northern and Richmond) has some of the smoothest and best roads you will find anywhere....period. I miss it, it will always be home to me.

Wow, after reading these posts, maybe Cali roads and freeways are too bad. I live close to a few sections that will rattle your teeth out. But if you get on HWY 5 it's not too bad. The 101 isn't too bad if you go way up north. Even Hwy 1 is pretty good through most sections down past Monterey. Besides that it's a bumpy ride most days and I play dodge the potholes. I think people think I'm drunk most times until they hit one I just avoided because they were tailgating.

Lol !!!! Tailgaters are losers ..... Lol !!!!

I live in Chicago and the roads are terrible. In the winter, they use very strong salt and lots of it. It destroys the road. Luckily, we have a mayor who has nothing better to do than make the city pretty. So they try to fill them in, but not fast enough! I am afraid I'm going to end up killing myself in one of them.
