Sell your Z and buy a cheap economical car that takes regular 87 octane gas.

I understand what the veterans here are saying… but with prices going to $4/gallon very soon, it’s no wonder people are asking what they can “get away this” as to cheaper gas.

I’m in Minnesota where the legislature is mandating putting all sorts of junk (corn, soybeans, and even crap “literally”) into gasoline. You hardly know what is really going into your car, but it is not good. Last winter, wise long-haul truckers would not fill in Minnesota because we were mixing soybean oil into diesel fuel and it was congealing faster that you could say “crap.”

With fuel costs as high as they are now, and going even higher, many people will fill with the lowest grade available. Modern engines equipped with computers handle various grades very well. If you don’t buy watered-down gas in Tijuana (or gas contaminated with vegetable oil in Minnesota), you are probably fine with a lower grade.

they all say to use the lowest grade without causing knock.

i faithfully use 93 Shell V-power.

a 20 cent difference for a typical 16 gallon fillup is $3.20. Whoopiefreakindo...
i lose that much in between my couch and car seats...

It doesnt matter what gas station you buy your gas. Most gas is bought on the open market. It is true that mobile will refine gas, but they also sell it to shell, no name gas mart and BP. In return they will buy gas from BP or whatever if they can a better price. I work at a hedgefund and I see these private trades daily, so when you go to the pump.. you have no idea what refining company made the gas.

$3.20 a fillup is 3 cheezburgrz, for a high school kid who bought a 03 z with 70k miles for $14k, thats a lot of cheezburgrz.

Between the fact that I fill up twice a week (lots of driving and chauffeuring the g/f to her two jobs) , and that I am trading it in, I use 87. Not had one problem, can't even tell the difference. If I was keeping my car, I might use 89. But 93 is costing me $65 to fill up, and I see the pumps alot.

Diesel. The gas mileage is so much better, and it's better for the environment. Sometimes you just gotta be smart about it...
