Finally got my Z...WOW
Unbelievable …
I took delivery this afternoon. Silverstone Enthusiast, 6 SP, all options except side ‘bags.
My expectations were high after reading all the reviews and following all the Z forums on the Internet. But I couldn’t believe it! This car is SO MUCH MORE than I imagined in my wildest dreams!
On the way home from the dealer (only had 3 miles on it), new Corvette pulls up next to me. He does a double take and his mouth falls open, slack jawed! Un–freakin’-believable! I don’t know if he’d never seen a Z up close or what, but the old fart made a fool of himself. And I’d only put 3 miles on the Z!! Then this type of reaction goes on ALL afternoon. People making fools of themselves checking out this car! I hope I’m not responsible for any accidents!
I sold my mint 1967 Mustang in order to buy the Z. It was sweet, only had 35,000 miles –looked brand new. But I had more stares, people talking to me, and strange reactions today in my Z than all my years with the Mustang!
About the car itself… how do you guys keep it under 4K RPMS for 1,200 miles? This car just begs to be rev’ed. Only negatives: I found having the transmission by me right knee made it a little too warm in the car. And boy, does the stereo suck.. But the exhaust sounds so sweet, why listen to music? This car makes it’s own sweet music!
The funny thing was I thought I was doing good getting the Z for $1,275.00 under MSRP. The salesman just kept going on about what a good deal it was and couldn’t believe the manager made this deal… You sucker, if I’d known how sweet this car is I’d paid $2,000 OVER sticker price!!
For you guys still waiting… go for it, any price is a good deal. This is a $50,000.00 car!
It’s a steal at any price…
I could go on all night………..
Peace all..

Congratulations. I purchased the Silverstone Touring and love the car. The stereo does not belong on a car of this caliber but that's what the aftermarket is for. I too had a hard time with the break in period but treat it well. It’s hopefully going to be a long-term relationship.
Have Fun!

Just wait until your first fill-up at the gas station...people will gather around and ask questions and oooh and ahh. Once a young sweet thing came running up screaming "can I sit in your cool car?" Being the gentleman I am, I let her. All kinds of people will come up to you and start talking about your car---be prepared to spend some time at the pumps! Enjoy the ride.

Because your Z is brand new, I would strongly suggest you protect your ft of your car. At least consider what I am saying now before your paint chips. Their is a lot of exposed paint and if you read this forum you will find that paint chipping is a major proplem. Some guys get chippped up within first 4K so bad, they want to repaint.
I got the clear bra which is a clear film that will protect your paint except for things like 2 x 4's hitting it. It looks much like the film in the small patch in front of your rear wheel but it is a thinner film.
Look and do a search, read all the threads. You will find some do not like it. Those people usually had a poor installer. You must find a certified installe, a window tinter cannot do this right. Mine looks perfect. I did the front bumper only so it ends at the seams thus invisble. You can also get the entire kit that covers 50% of hood, lights, mirrors, A columns etc.
Good luck, BTW, you got a pm from me. Enjoy your Z. I got the SS too.

what an experience huh?!
i guess i'm a late comer in the area so not too many people stop and talk to me about the car. dont get me wrong, i still get the heads to turn but it's not like what you're experiencing.
my advice is to slowly up the rpms past 4000 up to maybe 5-5.5 k
just try not to have any sudden changes and vary rpms as much as you can. i'm telling you this because my friend is pretty sure that my break-in procedure created a more powerful engine than the norm. still need to dyno to prove it, but i'll take his word on it for now.
congratulations on the car!

I have a friend who owns 1978 Ferrari 308 GTB. He swears by the same theory. Break it in slow and you produce a slower car, break it in hard and you produce a faster car.
I don't know about that. I babied my Z for at leat 2,000 miles
. I love my car

congrats Marhot. I hope you enjoy the hell outta it.
BTW, where'd you order form and how was the pricing. I have checked out a few Nissan dealers around the KC/Lawrence area and haven't been too impressed yet, but I haven't done serious pricing yet either.

I started breaking in my Z a bit harder once I hit about 900 miles. Coming from a racing backround, we would always break in our race motors a certain way--so I'm following that. At 900 miles I was hitting bursts at 5.5k pushing it between 4 and 5.5k but staying away from redline. I can tell you over the past 400 miles, the motor definately is getting faster. This car is amazing!
Wait til the break-in period is over and you can break it loose. Hoo-boy! Yeah it's torture for a bit...
Of course, I couldn't resist a couple hard runs even though I wasn't supposed to. At about 800~900 miles I just had to do a standing full-acceleration run to check it out. Twice. :-)
Once I got it out of my system, and kept grinning from ear-to-ear for a few days, I was able to last until 1200 miles.

I have broken in many engines in my time, the most recent a titanium nitride plated engine that was tight for 3000 miles. I have been told and have found to be true that you should break in an engine the way that you intend to use it for the rest of it's life. Don't go to synthetic oil too soon either, you will glaze your cylinders and never have the performance you should. The "polishing" process stops too soon, since synthetic is so much more slippery. The goal in break in is to wear the engine. Not too little, not too much, but just enough to reduce friction to the point that you minimize energy lost to heat and maximize the energy that makes it to the wheel. Wear it as far as you can without causing the engine to use oil. Some of the most powerful engines I have ever worked with were thrashed through break in. They are so loose that they turn every atom of fuel into power at the wheel. If you think about it it makes perfect sense.
